1.5

With my rating system being:

<1 Finished it but wished I had DNFed instead. Several major criticisms.
1 Not the worst thing I've ever read but wouldn’t read it again; probably one major gripe.
2 Meh. No major sins but but don’t like it enough to buy a physical copy. It's fine. Just fine.
3 Liked it and will casually seek out a physical copy to have in my library
4 Thoroughly enjoyed it and have no major criticisms; will recommend to others, read again, and consider a special edition version
5 ABSOLUTELY FERAL FOR THIS BOOK, will not shut up about it, will maniacally and immediately seek out a special edition and/or bind one

I’m giving this a 1.5, I think. I can’t quite tell if that’s objective or if my own personal baggage was making this book more noisome than it would be otherwise, but I had MAJOR issues with how the FMC and MMC related to each other. Like, suuuuuuper toxic habits and behaviors that weren’t addressed in any way, so the FMC isn’t self aware and maybe the author isn’t either, and thinks that kind of dynamic is okay? I don’t know but it just rubbed me the wrong way and reminded me a lot of where I came from and how much work I had to do to undo all those kinds of assumptions.

Beyond that, the plot seems very thin on the ground. Too much vague hinting and not enough meat to truly care about what happens next. I started the sequel and pretty quickly DNFed because I just didn’t care.

This book is a roller coaster of emotions ending on a massive cliffhanger that will have you questioning EVERYTHING. Who is Frenchman?! I thought I knew but how I’m so confused. This book has me in a chokehold, could not put it down and now I’m going to be picking up the second book because I NEED more. So many questions that I thought I had answered but now I’m questioning them all. The spice in the book will make you melt. The storyline is amazing. The friendships that are built in the book and the relationships have you so invested. Why did I wait so long to pick up this series?!

That last 15% of the book sent me on a ride. The amount of gaslighting was obscene but I get it now, phew. I can't help but laugh because this feels like Fast & Furious "11" but from a woman's perspective

I went in blind not knowing what this book was about, the blurb on the back doesn’t give you an inkling of what you’re about to dive into.
