Wildly disappointed by the debut novel from the author of my favorite novel Pachinko. This was almost painful to read and I did not finish

This book is full of surprises - extremely sad how things turn out (in a way). A brilliant exposition on New York society, and what it means to be an immigrant. Felt true. One key takeaway for me was the importance of being true to oneself. There are a few very profound ideas scattered across the book. I was drawn to the characters and the storytelling, couldn’t put it down.

This book took me longer than I anticipated - partially because she causes you to slow down and really take in the emotions of her characters. Good read however, and I will be interested in reading other works by this author.

I just am not feeling connected to any of these characters and the plot is not revealing itself fast enough.
