3.5 stars rounded up. I enjoyed most of the characters and their plights, but I didn’t love how some of them ended up. Casey and Ella were fantastic characters. Loved both of their arcs and enjoyed watching them grow. I didn’t like Unu at all, but I didn’t mind Ted, surprisingly.

Rounding up to 4 stars bc MOST of the book was 4 star quality to me…. The last ~100 pages did not really hit for me and left me wanting. Unresolved ending would have felt more intentional if the book hadn’t lost steam beforehand. Enjoyed for the most part tho!

I found this a bit hard to get into but once I got going I was engrossed and couldn't wait to see how the various lives progressed. It is probably too long, but I did really connect with Casey, the main character - a young person trying to break away and lead her own life. This was my first Korean-American book that I've read and it won't be my last - I look forward to reading the author's more well-known book, Pachinko
