Why did I somehow think this book was more about economics and that I wouldn't like it? I was utterly fascinated by the quirkiness of the main character, Casey. I learned more about the world of finance and Korean immigrants in New York. The main characters are twenty something year old elite college graduates. Most are the children of Korean immigrants for whom financial success and Christian religion are everything. Reading along as the characters made bad decisions that were so financially and emotionally costly was like being on a rollercoaster or watching a team that continually defeats itself through errors. And I could not look away. Min Jin Lee is an incredible writer! This novel was for me a delicious Korean American soap opera type saga and I was sad when I reached the end.

Great title. Book was fair. Young Korean-American woman who graduates from college and is trying to find her place in NY society. Tells of her jobs, love life, family etc. good beach read.

Min Jin Lee never fails to develop complex characters that undergo the many complicated obstacles in life from a perspective of an Asian-American. She explores the relationships between family members, friends, lovers, co-workers, and acquaintances without shying away from the intimate pain that each connection could bring. In the end, her book gives us hope and resilience in facing these challenges in our own lives.
