I really liked Aru Shah And The End Of Time!  I really liked seeing Aru and Mini stop the Sleeper and save time.

I liked Aru and Mini, and they seem like such an unlikely duo.  I thought they worked well together, and I'm curious to see if we'll meet the other 3 Pandava sisters in the rest of the series, or if we'll just see Aru and Mini.

One thing I thought was interesting was how surprised people were that the legendary Pandava brothers were, in fact, sisters.  It made for a unique twist, and people seemed to underestimate these two girls.  It makes me wish that I knew more about Hindu mythology because it would have been fun (and pretty cool) to know the real stories that Chokshi drew from.

Also, I love that Rick Riordan acknowledges that this was not a story he could have written, and that he believes Chokshi can.  I think it's cool he's giving other writers a voice and the chance to re-tell the mythology that they're familiar with.

Back to the story, though.  I really liked seeing Aru and Mini work together to save the world.  They're scared and not always ready for what's in store, but they get it down, and it's a pretty interesting adventure for the two of them.  I also loved their pigeon sidekick, who was pretty funny.

I loved how smart Mini and how she's obsessed with anything and everything that can make you sick.  Aru, even though she just wanted to fit in with the popular kids and ends up starting this whole adventure because of it, is funny and curious and determined to make things right.  They support each other, even when they fight, and they really do have a great friendship.  It's nice to see in a middle grade book, though I feel like we see more of it in middle grade than YA (at least, in my experience).

My Rating: 4 stars.  I didn't love but I still really liked it.  I'd recommend it everyone, but especially Rick Riordan fans.

we luv aru shah!!!

Aru Shah was amazing. I really like RR books, I love middle grade in general, it's such a fun genre, but it can really hit your heart because you might not expect it. I still love animated films aimed at kids for this reason.

Aru Shah is a little girl who's a liar. Her mom doesn't pay mind to her, being busy as a museum curator, and when we begin the book, Aru is caught in a lie by her peers. To save face, she decides to light a certain lamp, after all it'll only be for a second.

Thus, her adventure begins.

I love the progression of the plot. It's based on Indian mythos, specifically, in the Mahabharata there are five brothers, the Pandavas, and they do amazing epic things, there's a war, everything. This is a retelling, but with sisters. Just...yes. That's so cool! With good characters, fun plot, and heart, there's no way this can't be great. And it is, great.

I loved Aru, she was an adorable young girl, I love her snark, I love that she lies. I love that it's framed as a neautral thing? Sometimes it's good to be cunning. I love
Spoiler Mini, her sister. She's kinda akward, but super smart too. I love their friendship/sisterhood. It bodes very well for the future sisters
. I love our tiny cast so far, and I anticipate more growth, enjoyment and satisfation.

I liked the dialouge, some of the humor was actually very clever, with word play. I liked the refrences, because, I too, think Aaragorn makes a great enterance Aru. I also liked the...the feel of it. Some parts felt damn lyrical. It's the nicest thing.

Of course, there's the
Spoiler Underworld. I am a SUCKER for death realms.

One tiny quibble
Spoiler The boy at the end? Felt random. His apperance actually made me realize the relief of reading a book with a girl protagonist with NO potentail love interest. It was about her and her path. Her and her sister. Her and her mom. Her and her dad (s).
But hey, fair enough. It may end up being the bees' knees.
