Perfect for Percy Jackson fans; similar tone, demigod as main character, quest, arrogant/enigmatic/kind-of-caring gods. The scatalogical jokes are appealing to many elementary (and middle) readers, and were easily ignored. I appreciated the exploration of the gray area between right/wrong, good/evil as well as the obvious positive aspects of having Indian protagonists and a world of non-western mythology. Best for ages 9-12 [12-year-old protagonist, MS bullies]

Great concept, but it tried too hard. "Too much voice" is apparently a thing which Aru demonstrates. And way too many references to pop culture that unnecessarily dates the book (did I really need to know Aru took a buzzfeed quiz to learn she would be 'Dauntless' in Insurgent?).
