I kind of went into this not expecting to make it all the way through and surprise surprise I didn't make it all the way through.
The first book in the series was entertaining enough but I had some problems with the instalove, the vagueness of the time travel and a few other bits and pieces. I'd seen some negative reviews of this saying that the negative things I'd hated in book one became bigger issues in book two. Straight off the bat I wasn't impressed with the writing and found the story really hard to get into. I don't care for the characters at all and the constant arguing between them felt so childish and annoying.
This is just a book I couldn't be bothered with. I'm sure others will enjoy it but it's 530 pages and I don't want to spend my time reading it.

well, wasn’t this the longest book of my life??? even though I’ve read plenty of book with 500 or so pages, this one dragged like a screaming child around a shopping centre. I did enjoy book one immensely so I knew I wanted to pick this one up but I felt like I died and came back again the moment the book finished. It was horrendously long with the majority of the book just filler, filler, filler.
so etta I love, as well as nicholas and I did like the ending and reading from rose’s point of view. I just didn’t immerse myself in the story at all. I skim read a lot of chapters - I won’t lie, but nothing happened. I mean legit nothing. I’d be sitting here waiting for something to happen and then bam something does a hundred chapters in and then we would have to wait another thousand chapters for something else interesting to happen.
probably one of the most disappointing reads for me. I don’t wanna hate on a book ever but I feel like this could have been so bloody good and I was left like ugh.

This ending made my heart very happy! I was lucky enough to get an ARC at Yallfest last year, but was so busy I didn't have time to read it until now. I definitely need to get my hands on a Target copy so I can read the Henry and Rose short story.
Really loved this ending!!! It was perf. I like how it was a duology and not a trilogy, because I feel like things were spaced well and only needed the two books.
THE ENDING!!
WITH NICHOLAS!!
I really like how the Astrolabe transferred its powers to Nicholas, so he could get families together, because that was really how it should have been used in the first place. It was the most perfect ending I could have dreamed of.

YAN DO NOT READ THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE FINISHED
Okay first of all, I would just like to say my love for Alexandra Bracken, and her writing of characters. They are so complex and diverse. One of the two main characters, Nicolas is a POC boy who grew up through slavery and has so much honor and love in his heart. Sophia is a girl with a troubled background that we had no idea about, but some how Alexandra Bracken portrayed how strong she was and why she did what she did. I really came to love Sophia. And Sophia came to love Li Min. Li Min is a bad ass lesbian pirate who escaped the shadows, worked under the best Chinese pirate, Ching Shih, a women. Bracken never slacked off on a single character, EVEN JULIAN turned out to be more than he seemed and had so much love for his nanny and god I really warmed up to Julian.
I loved Rose's development throughout the story and how I never knew if she was good or bad. For that matter, I never knew who, or what was good or bad, truth or lie. Bracken wrote this story so well, I couldn't stop reading. So many twists and turns, there are so many layers to this story, it was so much more complex than I could have thought.
Etta and Nicolas's love is so strong, and she describes it so well. AND she's practical! So many times Etta thinks so herself, that they can't possibly be in love, because they've only known each other for a month. They actually think about their differences, talk seriously about their futures and their problems that they will face. It is such a HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP! They respect each others boundaries from the very beginning, and when they don't know what's not okay the other person tells them! They have good communication and actually listen to each other. God I couldn't get enough.
I'd also like to say that I am very happy about the getting together of Li Min and Sophia. So very happy.
Sorry I keep going on about the characters, but even the evil guy wasn't just and EVIL GUY. You could sympathize with him, like Nicolas did, because he has so much pain in his life. He lost the love of his life because of his greed for power, and lived to regret it every year of the rest of his life, and worked to right that wrong no matter the cost.
I could honestly go on about this book forever. The Belledonna is so freaking cool. Like chaotic neutral? I'm not sure. AND SO MUCH LORE OH MY GOD. The alchemist. I freaking love the story behind how they came to be, and I love how it was told to them. I want more Travelers lore!!! More shadows lore!!!! The shadows are interesting as hell and I think we could get a novella out of them.
Okay I think I'm done for this review, I only have one thing left to say...
May the best pirate win

Now that I've read the sneak peek for 'Wayfarer' I CANNOT WAIT to fully get into the Passenger series! I am in the midst of reading Passenger, so perhaps I have been engaging in spoilers by already reading the sneak peek but I quite simply could not not read it, if that makes sense. Everything I could see from the sneak peak told me that Alexandra Bracken continues with the same beautiful prose and amazing characterization!
