Started out right where book one left off but as I got to the middle, it seemed very monotonous. I understand partially why it’s “back and forth”, but I feel it was dragged out more than necessary. Like the first one WAY better.

WTFUDGE-actual rating 4.5 stars
I CANNOT BELIEVE this book.

I have a love-hate relationship with it.

HOW CAN-let me say it again-HOW THE HELL can Nicholas just send Etta back to her timeline, thoughtlessly leaving her alone, and then-THEN decide "oh you know what, I miss her. I'll just go get Rose and Henry and go to New York 2015"
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUDGEPUDDLES??? I was so angry at Nicholas, he's so annoying honourable-too honourable-and that was a bit of a stupid and thoughtless move if you ask me, because what about all the other people who have found homes in other times? How could he leave Etta all alone?

I'm so glad that we FINALLY understood what the devil was going on with Rose-that she wanted Etta to destroy the atralobe because she thought she's the only one worthy of it's power...

I really liked Henry's character, as well, and I really liked how he was still in love with Rose and how he was proud of Etta. I actually thought he was going to end up being a bad guy, but he stayed good, which was a relief!

The whole ordeal about the Shadows and the alchemist and the Ancient One and Belladona was a bit confusing. I felt like it was a bit of a random idea, and the way the Ancient One just died and nothing really significant happened...it felt a bit random to me. I'll have to re-read it to fully understand it.

Oh my gosh, I was SO EXCITED to meet Julian! I absolutely loved him and how he was so flirty and so unserious in the worst situations! He was fantastic!

I think I missed the part where Etta met Li Min in San Fransico, but Li Min's character was cool.

I also really liked how Nicholas and Sophia became friends, and how Julian apologised for being mean to him previously!

I didn't really get the deal with the shinning man that Rose saw...but I'll re-read it eventually to understand it. I really really liked the prologue; it was really captivating.

I felt like throughout the book Etta was becoming more and more like Rose....I also really loved how Nicholas and Etta could read each other's actions and reactions even when they weren't with each other.

I teared up towards the last sixty pages and I skim read the last 30 pages...I was SO UPSET at Nicholas!

I felt the same way about the storyline of this book as I did about passengers'...I felt like it just dragged on a bit randomly until it got to the end...

BUT the description in this book was beautiful!

Overall, I have a love-hate feeling towards this book and I'm confliced and confused about it! I think I'll have to re-read both books again to gain a full understanding of the world, but it was still a great book!

This series is, without a doubt, the most logical explanation of time travel I have ever read. How they travel, how different times relate to each other, how there can be a deadline if they can literally travel through time, what happens if they meet a future version of them, what happens if they change their future (the grandfather paradox)... it all makes sense. Kudos to Alexandra Bracken

Review is on my blog, but I was really disappointed by this one :(

Took a while longer to read... and a but more boring

As with the first book, if you like historic adventure fiction with some romance and fantasy as side dishes, this book is up your alley. But I felt the ending was unsatisfying after the author did such a good job of building up all these characters over two books. And I felt many questions were left unanswered, motivations and moments unexplained. Not a bad book really, just feeling disappointed.

4.5 stars.

I blew through the second half of the book.

I received a copy of Wayfarer from HarperCollins New Zealand to review. This is the conclusion to Passenger.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Passenger and wasn't really sure if I wanted to continue with the story until I read the cliffhanger at the end of the book and I needed to know what happened to Etta. I think Etta and Sophia were the only characters I liked in Passenger so I was glad they were both in Wayfarer a lot.

I felt like Etta had her prorities in order in Wayfarer compared to Nicholas. He was too focused on getting Etta back, kind of in an obsessive way, when he should have been tracking down the Astrolabe. Etta put finding the Astrolabe over getting back to Nicholas because she was smart enough to realise what was more important - saving the timeline from Cyrus Ironwood so that she had the chance to see Nicholas again. Nicholas annoyed me in this book just as much as he did in Passenger. Maybe even more.

There was still too much unnessary detail for me. I think because I was expecting it I was able to see past it this time. For most of the book anyway. There were parts I skipped over because there was stuff I didn't need to know. Like the ending. I cannot believe how long that dragged on like it wasn't obvious what was going to happen. I had to skip all the violin/music talk because it didn't interest me at all and wasn't relevent to the story. And by then I just wanted to get to the end.

There was something left out of the ending that I would have liked an answer to. I won't give anything away but I will say that it's about Julian.

I know it sounds like I didn't like Wayfarer but I actually did. A lot more than Passenger. I think this had a better storyline, with that extra twist having someone else looking for the Astrolabe as well as Cyrus to destroy everything. And I really liked Etta, Sophia and Julian.

Great conclusion to an otherwise patchy start, which was the first half of 'Passenger'. Bracken has woven an intricate time-traveling tale through various periods of history, which I really like. Her writing is slightly repetitive, but gets better between books 1 and 2, and shows a lot of promise. Recommended for fans of time travel within historical fiction.
