While I liked some of Seuss's other books better, this is certainly a "poet's poetry collection." If you've spent the majority of your life writing poems and wondered wtf am I doing / why am I doing this, then this book is for you. Beautiful, smart, funny. All the things you want from a Seuss collection.

As a stand out second to her “frank:sonnets” (though Seuss never outright says this) Seuss reintroduces the writer of that particular piece in her many forms; both poetic and persona. Persona: The childhood we have come to be familiar with from frank with its lush images of a life rode hard and put away wet, drawn in both dreamy and stark vignette. The introspection of a young academic with imposter syndrome breaking into the writing space and the collegiate world so far from her upbringing it’s almost comical. Poetic (form) unlike frank Seuss pulls other forms from her writers toolkit, such as sestets, ballads, and a return of her Anapestic tetrameter. Big fan of her work and the many lives she conveys in her poetry. All aspiring poets (or anyone whose taking a college creative writing course for that matter) should read these poems and marinate on the fact that none of us know all the names or the right questions but we all ended up here because we had a similar itch of the brain.

At age ten, I turned away from tenderness... My house is a cold mess except for that thing in the corner. Poetry, that snarling, flaming bitch.

I am a wretched thing! Wrecked by a good line break!
