Even better than her sonnets. Addictive, a memoir in the shape of deconstructed classic forms that reconstruct a life and one’s love for life. Almost. She dedicated it to her reader—this reader is covered in fiery fabrics of awe.

More like 4.5. The voice of Diane Seuss is just so impressive. It feels like this book is an effort to clarify herself, and her self is full of grit and details and love for other poets and trying out metaphors then immediately judging them and mostly amazing writing.

Just stupidly gorgeous poetry. I found this an easier read than Frank:sonnets mostly because the poems are more clearly separate: they have titles, obvious beginnings and ends, they aren’t printed right to the margins of the page, etc. But the Frank book might overall have a heftier punch to the psyche (in a good way). This book was easier to read just a couple poems and then set it down and walk away. Frank felt like don’t you even dare stop. Heh. YMMV. Anyway: Seuss is clearly one of our greatest American poets, living or dead and I’m not impressed with myself that it took me this long to read / experience her. As to this collection: So so so many poems I really loved—I’ll just point out three faves: “Poetry,” “Rhapsody,” and “Love Letter.”

A moving, thoughtful exploration of poetry and all its questions (modern + ancient). I felt like this is a book that returned me to myself, and imagine I’ll return to it for years to come. (Bonus points for all the Keats at the end)
