Reading this post pre frontal lobe development is a wild ride. I’ve misremembered so much from the movies that reading Bella with a personality is kinda insane to me. Why is she so expressive?

I loved this book - the whole series really! Initially I had no desire to read it at all, and bought it as a last resort for a cross country road trip. A few chapters in, I was hooked and couldn't put it down! It is by far one of my favorite books I have ever read! Such a sweet love story! One of the few books I could/have read over and over again and never get tired of it.

I decided to do a full series reread due to the upcoming release of Midnight Sun.
Having extremely positive memories attached to this series, I truly enjoyed the nostalgia associated with this series, though I cannot stress enough that Bella and Edward do not have a healthy relationship, which is more apparent in the later books. In this book, the biggest issue is stalking, which is a topic that's been talked about virtually nonstop.
My issue with this book is that I actually didn't buy the relationship between Edward and Bella at all. Meyer is incredibly verbose, leading to a lengthy novel. If you widdle that down to an actual timeline, it's only a matter of days if not weeks that Bella and Edward are hanging out. The scene in the meadow where Edward reveals his ~true form~ to the baseball scene to Bella leaving to Arizona takes place over two days. Edward later reveals in Midnight Sun that the baseball game was only an hour long. I get that teenagers fall hard and fast (believe me, I know), but we got so little time with the two as an actual couple that the grand proclamations of love and subsequent actions just felt forced and unrealistic.

TL;DR: Overall it's exactly what you think you're gonna get. It's not awful, like there are some moments that are overall, okay (though that could be the nostalgia). There were some problematic things though, like Bella ditching her friends and some aspects about their relationship (especially early on). That being said, this book isn't the worst thing out there. I see how middle-school me loved it and can understand how there are still fans out there now. Is it cliché to hate it? Yeah, totally. Is it worth the hate? Probably not.
