I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I found the storyline intriguing and the characters well-developed.
Grabbed it randomly off the library shelf because a Regency romance could fill the gap while I waited for other books to arrive. Didn’t realize it was a Christian romance till reading other GR reviews later. Perfectly silly (but Christian clean) romance. Very little character development and low stakes that didn’t quite warrant the highly dramatic language. Both Delia and Jac were thin characters that were so beautiful and virtuous, they had no place to go other than to be victims of plot devices. And for a Christian romance, there seemed to be little faith expressed...more Christian platitudes than anything else.

The Governess of Penwythe Hall by Sarah Ladd is a historical novel set during the Regency time period in Cornwall, England. The story included elements of romance and faith, but it was primarily a story of day-to-day living, which I appreciate. The heroine is, obviously, a governess. We learn that Delia is a widow who also lost a child before she became a governess. Her charges are five children (3 girls and 2 boys) who are orphaned at the beginning of the book. She and the children then move to Cornwall to live with the children's uncle. That's where the trouble comes in. Delia's family, and worse yet, her in-laws, live in the area, so her past comes back to haunt her. The cover of the book is beautiful. The characters are likable. However, I found the story a little slow and predictable. I had a hard time finishing it. Unfortunately, I didn't end up enjoying it as much as I expected to.
This was a sweet story featuring a woman who faces disillusionment, tragic losses and dangers from her past but through faith perseveres, overcomes and triumphs to find new love and a brighter future. Well-written if a bit predictable.
Thanks to #NetGalley and #ThomasNelson for the ARC. The opinions are strictly my own.

I should have done my research before picking this up. It's a nice enough story, but I don't thrive on the specific message that is laced all the way through.

Sarah E Ladd has done it again!!!
What a captivating read. Full of family, love, loss etc. With a backdrop of Cornwall.
Full of twists and turns to keep me turning the pages. I loved the main characters in this book and hope they make an appearance in the next one.
There was a passage about Faith in God, which I really needed to read. Thankful for the Christian content in this book. Now onto the next one. I have the paperback
