obsessed with poop to an unfortunate degree

This wasn't the usual type of book I read but I did enjoy it. I found myself liking and disliking all the Lamberts at different points in the book. What scared me is that I saw some of their flaws in myself. I could understand how they were feeling towards one another. The book was funny, depressing, scary, and sometimes frustrating but a good read.

will read again one day!

Chrissy, please don't kill me for only giving this three stars. :/

Franzen writes chewy books. I look forward to reading another one written by him.

Maybe the best book I’ve ever read

This author is so insightful(especially about the dysfunctions in middle class, middle- American families) and expresses his thoughts with precision, he really is one of the best authors I have read, however, I just wish I liked his characters better. I did like this book more than his book, Freedom, and that's mainly because the characters in this book were redeemable in the end.

Really enjoyed this, tragic and poignant.
slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Not my favorite from Franzen. Hard to connect to the characters in the beginning which made it so difficult to track each time the book shifted between the characters.
