Abby Jimenez is just incapable of writing a book that is anything short of magic. From the jump, they are captivating and beautiful and emotional. I also LOVE that they have ties to her other books - it makes it a super fun reading experience! This book had a sweet premise where the two main characters have a "curse" that they are always the last people that their partners date before meeting their soulmates. To break this, the MMC and FMC decide to fake date each other to try and break the curse. Of course, they fall in love, and what ensues for the rest of the book is just sweet, romantic bliss for readers. I found a lot of the book relatable, particularly between Justin and Emma's relationships with their mothers (super dysfunctional and deeply sad). The great thing about Jimenez's books is that she can write a gorgeous love story and then turn around and rip your heart out with her ability to write deeply flawed and emotionally complex characters. During Jimenez's promotion of this book, she announced her next book and it honestly cannot come soon enough.

Here are a couple things that solidified my opinion. 1. I caught myself cheesing 2 minutes in šŸ˜. 2. I kept getting choked up. 3. 12:24am Iā€™m laying in bed listening to the audiobook, playing my 90th round (of the same level) of CandyCrush and my phone shuts down at 0%. This never happens!!
ā€Œ
I guess itā€™s fair to say that, I LOVED THIS STORY!!!!! It is 24k gold magic!
ā€Œ
The combination of the most loving, deserving of all the good things characters, tender interactions, sincerely expressed feelings, precious moments, and pure love made this sheer bliss.
ā€Œ
The characters were perfection! I wanted the best for Emma and Justin from page 1. Justins hilarious Reddit story set it off with a bang that had me laughing and full in! 2. Sweet Emma, I just loved her and wanted to bear hug her and Justin! They were each otherā€™s person from miles away and Iā€™m so glad she and Mady deviated from their set in stone plans so that Emma could take a chance on love.
ā€Œ
The side situations and family dynamics were perfectly crafted. I usually steer away from the overly used ā€œhorrible momā€ plots, but Emma/Amber had a unique and complex story, which I hadnā€™t read before. Justin stepping in to parent his siblings while trying to balance romance was done so well; I could feel how painstaking all of the unexpected events took a toll on his life.
ā€Œ
I also loved the side characters, Maddie & Sarah. Even Amberā€™s hot mess brought a fusion of drama & gall.
ā€Œ
This was the first time in a long time I read a story where I could honestly feel an organic, powerful force of love blooming. Their chemistry was magnetic & undeniable. From them quickly meeting to instantly building a trust and comfort level with each other to blend so well into each otherā€™s life is everything that I long for in romance. But tbh I think it was the first date that solidified this one as a winner for me. šŸˆ
ā€Œ
If a guy isnā€™t as considerate and attentive as Justin, I donā€™t want him.
If the friend isnā€™t as loyal and loving as Maddy, I donā€™t want her.
ā€Œ
All of the feels! This is thee book of summer!! So glad I could join this buddy read!!
