It was an decent read, I'd say that it's the fast food equivalent of literature.

I loved it! Though, I was sad that we didn't see more of Détective Ryan/Brennan.. He was only mentioned briefly and my shippy heart wasn't satisfied :(

I loved Brennan's snark, it never fails to make me laugh!

This wasn’t my favorite book by Kathy, but was still a good read.

EVERY GODDAMN INVESTIGATION, Tempe, you get hit on the head and dumped somewhere. Why do you continue to be surprised when you wake up in a shed/cellar/coffin?

Anyway this one was about NASCAR and Chris hated it and advised I skip it but I'm a completionist so I didn't, but I totally could have. I've always liked the Montreal ones better anyway.

Characters: I've figured out that I have to approach these books as totally separate from the show, because the characters are quite different. Now that I've started doing that I really like the book version of Brennan. I thought Brennan was especially likable in this book, but I was a bit disappointed that Ryan wasn't really in this book. I didn't particularly like either of Brennan's partner's in this book.
Plot: I'm not at all interested in NASCAR, but I actually really enjoyed this mystery. There were a lot of characters and a lot of mysterious events, but it wasn't too difficult to keep track of things. The mystery kept me guessing until the end.
Overall: This was a solid Bones mystery. I also wasn't as gruesome as some of the mysteries in this series often are, which was kind of nice. Pretty much the only thing I really didn't like was that Ryan wasn't her partner in this mystery.

I rarely write it in these reviews, I think, but this is a book whose first sentence will pull you in and leave you convinced that you need to finish it. I was a bit sleepy when I started this, but that sentence flung sleep into another universe for a while.

A flash of lightning illuminates the hand of the body buried in the landfill adjacent to the racetrack in Charlotte. Concealed in a barrel, the corpse has been there for years. But whose body is it? And why is the FBI so intensely interested in Dr. Temperance Brennan’s results?

Soon after the body is found, Brennan is contacted by a member of a racing crew who asks her to help uncover the disappearance of his sister and her boyfriend in the late ‘90s. Indeed, he wonders whether the body recently unearthed is that of his sister’s boyfriend. It isn’t, but you need to read the book for the fascinating details.

It seems that the young woman and her boyfriend who disappeared in the late ‘90s were part of a white supremacist group. Most people assumed the couple had simply disappeared to marry and live off the grid somewhere. But her brother always believed otherwise. When he is crushed to death in what appears to be a race car accident, Temperance realizes even her life could be endangered.

This is a gripping story of poison and trust and a struggle to determine who can be trusted. It’s a quick read that will keep you wanting more and working your way to the back cover.
