I really like her books. They are quick and informative with that great touch of mystery. I'm not a NASCAR fan, but fun nonetheless.

A "meh" book. Reichs can crank 'em out. Every 4th or 5th title, there's a great one in this series. But this one---it sort feels like she came up with a clever title (when they have to include "bones," there must be limits to creative titling), then cast about until she hit on the NASCAR theme.

Which was the first, biggest turn-off. I want to read about forensics and unravel mysteries. I really don't want to read about NASCAR. There's a lot of Reichs's homework in the book, too--the history of NASCAR, details about various levels and styles of stock-car racing, blah, blah, blah.

I'll keep reading Reichs but this one felt phoned in.

As always, engaging. Love her stuff. I wish more of it was set in North Carolina, but that's just me. The stories are always good.

Plot: Tempe gets a new case in North Carolina that quickly lured the attention to a cold case of a missing couple. Within days the FBI and a local NASCAR stadium director are trying to get information from her and attempting to take over her case. Working blind and at a deficit from withheld information, she tries to get to the bottom of what happened to her body that was found and to the couple that disappeared.
Opinion: I really enjoyed this book even though the focus was basically all on the case and non on Detective Ryan. This one had current and past secrets hiding that were interesting to discover.

I figured out who the killer was fairly early on, which I never do, and I was surprised that Tempe didn't realize it sooner. The book has NASCAR as it setting, and I'm not a fan. Also pretty much zip in the romance department.

3.5 stars. Kind of predictable, but still enjoyable.

The story was okay, formulaic as usual but with a fluff murder mystery that's not a bad thing. What really got me this time was Reichs's super obvious lecturing.

I don't read books to have anyone's political/social views shoved down my throat. I doubt any of your readers are racist or homophobic. You're preaching to the choir, so just stop. And linking racist extremists to conservatives in general is just painting with too broad a brush.
