Woah 😮 I’m not sure what took me so long to read this, it’s has been on my TBR for years. This book is precious and the story is a beating heart with lots of breaks and it also mends and heals……. It is a very hard read but the undercurrent message of strength healing and love makes it all worthwhile! ✨✨✨✨.✨

Still one of my favorite books but uh, why is Iris' narrator Jo Raylan white? Cause there's some lines in here she does not say right for obvs reasons and it's very jarring. Know that's most likely the publishers decision but still bombastic side eye because Sean Crisden who did a very good job is Black so??? What was the reason? It also appears Raylan is a narrator in the kingmaker series too which is weird cause Lennix is indigneous so, gotta dock the audio version. Which is a shame because I know some people can't read the print version and its not fair to them imo
'Hopscotch'
The word that makes me cry every time. I thought I would be prepared cause I knew it was coming but this time I was crying again because finally! Our main character Iris is trapped by her abusive boyfriend and he's isolated her from her loved ones and behind the glitz and glam of his money he has her locked away and no one knows, not her love interest, not her cousin, and not the daughter she'll do anything to protect.
I have a lot of love for this book, from its realistic and nuanced depiction of DV. Some say it's too much but it's very real, even amongst all the hard parts. Iris tries to leave but her boyfriend weaponizes her post partum depression against her and leverages his whiteness and next thing she knows she's stuck. Everyone thinks they'd just leave, they're too tough, too smart to get trapped but abusers know how to manipulate situations and manipulate people to isolate their victims and Kennedy Ryan shows that well. And even when things turn more romantic we see Iris still have to deal with the aftermath, she flinches at certain affectionate gestures her abuser used, she's unsure of her LI's intentions. Her hearing isn't quite the same due to his physical abuse, she has a fracture that doesn't heal right. Things aren't perfect cause she found the love of her life, her trauma will follow her. But damn isn't it great to see her finally fight back and have people on her side and back her, and to see Caleb PERISH. Uh, I loved it! August also, he was gonna be in love with Iris if she never saw him again. She was the ONE tm for him. And I love that too, she was the woman for him and he knew that and was okay if it never happened again, so its that much sweeter when they end up together. I love this romance bad, I love a good journey, I love when we know our characters fully as individuals and love them as a unit. If you haven't read it and like romance, what are you waiting for?? this book needs a content warning that audible did not have.
I couldn't take this book seriously in the beginning but then all of the sudden she was getting very seriously abused
it was way more serious than I was expecting
I feel like this should be a fiction book not a romance. the main character is incredibly strong and doesn't need a man and I think it would've made an incredible book about her instead of about her falling for a man.
I think the author tried to make it empowering at the end but to me it didn't really come across stylistically. I think its pretty obvious that the main character is a strong independent woman and I dont think it needed to be expressly written out.

Wow. Just so much more than I was expecting to get from a 'sports romance'ќ. This was a deeply emotional journey. Gets down to the real grit of domestic and sexual abuse. Very deep characters all around. Narration was superior!

I braced myself for this book, but no amount of bracing or preparation could have truly prepared me for what I just read !
