Okay this book was INTENSE. I expected a spicy lil read and while it did have spice, the plot was the star of the show.
August and Iris’ story was so heartbreaking and beautiful at once. I was literally SHOUTING in my car while listening to the *traumatic* climax of this book while rooting for Iris to TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS.

That’s all I’ll say so there’s no spoilers but DEFINITELY
take a look at the trigger warnings before reading!! Some seriously heavy themes are discussed and described on page.

“I’d play you at the five” that scene and quote my gosh

Oh boy this book!!! This was a book club pick for @madskait book club and I had not heard to much about it prior to that but was intrigued. Going into this, I knew it was going to be a heavy read  and would definitely have me feeling lots of emotions.

From the first chapter of this book, I felt immediately invested in the story and already found myself feeling attached to the characters, August and Iris. The way the had such good chemistry right off the bat 🤌🏻. The thing I also enjoyed in their first meeting is that it was like an insta-love/ lust type of situation. There was obviously an attraction but it was mainly an emotional connection that you could see developing between.

Throughout this book, we are seeing the truth about Iris’s relationship with Caleb (her boyfriend at the time, not the mmc) and that behind closed doors, it isn’t what everyone thinks. These parts of the book were definitely very difficult to read and hear about but I feel as Kennedy Ryan did a good job handling it and taking time to do her research on these sensitive topics.

This book is such a strong, and impactful story about Iris trying to find herself again after going through so so much. She truly went through hell and back and we get to see her go through the steps of trying to piece her life back together. In doing so, she finds her way back to August and this man. He is so kind, patient, loving, and supportive. The way he loves so hard while also making sure Iris knows that she can take her time and he’ll be ready when she is 😩. This is a story that will stick with me for a long time and I’m so invested in this world now and can’t wait to keep reading this series!

2020 Pop Sugar Challenge: a book that won an award in 2019

Long Shot is a powerful, excruciating, but ultimately satisfying read ( that’s no spoiler since the author is on record, promising happy endings for her characters). Despite it winning a RITA award, I wouldn’t classify it as a romance; it’s absolutely about love, though, the way it molds and sustains and strengthens us. I highly recommend it but don’t ignore the warning: those abuse scenes are devastating to read.

wasnt able to connect with the characters, the abuse was horrifyingly graphic, like beyond what was needed, felt like the author was saying more than showing.
