So good!

What an important book this is! Yes, it is getting TONS on HYPE right now, but for good reason! This is a very well told story, although a difficult one. There are some heavy topics and disturbing scenes in this book, so if you are someone that needs trigger warnings, you may want to investigate this further before reading.

Just in time for March Madness, this book has a hero who is in the NBA, which is cool, because as many times as I have read about characters in the NHL, NFL or MLB this is my first NBA book.

However, the heroine in this book steals the show. Iris is...wow! Quite a woman. And to know that her character is based on real life people in her situation, it makes her that much more amazing!

I don't want to give away any of the story so I won't go into the plot. Just know it is a difficult journey. There is angst galore- especially in the first half. When I read books like this, I can't sit still. I read and then put the book down. Then I get up, pace the floor and then read some more. My family always looks as my a little funny but they are mostly used to it by now. ;)

Highly recommended for my angsty romance loving friends.

One of the most important books I've read in a long time. I am 100% this book will save someone, if not many someones.

This portrayal of domestic violence and the conversation(s) it opens about survivorship is, quite honestly, everything It Ends With Us wanted to be and more. I'm not easily triggered to the point of needing to take a break from reading, but I had to several times while reading this (especially the first half or so). To say it was a tough read is an understatement – Ryan does not shy away from showcasing the ugliest parts of a toxic, highly abusive relationship. The story is better and all the more powerful for it, but I would be remiss if I did not mention it at the jump. Please take care of yourself while reading 🩷

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Kennedy Ryan is among the very best authors in the game. She writes stories that are so compelling, so gorgeously rendered, with characters who feel like they could walk out of the pages at any given moment. I remain in awe of her talent. Long Shot is no exception; she handles an incredibly sensitive topic with care and grace. Iris, Caleb, and August felt real in a way that's hard to describe and much better experienced.

I honestly don't want to say too much about the plot of this, because other than safe in the knowledge that Iris will end up with the infinitely amazing, kindhearted August, this book is best read knowing only what the synopsis shares. Just know that it was fast paced enough to keep my attention throughout, yet introspective enough to feel grounded in each moment. (Yet again due to the skill of Long Shot's author.)

Iris is the epitome of strength, resilience, and courage. There were moments where she didn't feel like she was any of those things, and yet she persevered anyway, for herself and
for her daughter.
She is the hero of this story, her grit and her determination, her refusal to give up in the face of seemingly insurmountable circumstances. I don't remember the last time I genuinely admired an FMC so much.

August, the man that you are. My wish for every woman on planet earth is to be loved as much as August loves Iris. Talk about a man who feels in every way like the rainbow after a dark storm! And seeing him without hesitation love her
and Sarai
out loud, making sure she knows she is his priority (basketball is a season of his life, she is his endgame)........ well, suffice to say I'm now accepting applications.

A beautiful, gut-wrenching, ultimately hopeful love story I could not be more thankful exists.

The writing was BEAUTIFUL. The scene where she has her final stand with her husband and the way the author describes what is going on inside her head… absolutely stunning for such a heart breaking scene.
