One of the best craft books I've read. I can't wait to dive into crafting beats for my novels!

A very clear, process-oriented book on how to write a novel. Not the only way to do it, but I feel it has everything there that you need to give it a good go. Bravo! STCWAN takes Blake Snyder's Save the Cat for screenplays and applies it to novel writing—also read the original STC, as there is gold there too. I enjoyed the voice/tone/style of both.

Save the Cat! Writes a Novel is an excellent resource for plotting a compelling and well-rounded story. It gives examples of how the Save the Cat! method applies to multiple genre bestsellers, and builds from starting a novel to selling one. Recommended for even seasoned writers who might need a brush up on plot construction. I'll be bookmarking a few of the chapters for future reference.

This is a book that I will revisit again and again! I really appreciated the breakdown of the different books in each genre and the opening chapters which covered the characters. Really, I loved everything about this book. If you like to write either just for fun or with aspirations to publish one day, this book is 100% for you!

This might be the first book on writing I've read (aside from Stephen King's On Writing) that doesn't come off as BS self-flagellating fluff from the author, or preaching propaganda. It is in simple terms, a stripped-down and bare-bones look at the structure of most stories. There are valuable tools within for the newer and established writer both, that can be placed into the writer's toolbox. No, not every book can be distilled to this simplistic approach, but it can help you to find the path within your own story.
Some accuse it of being too formulaic, not ground-breaking enough. But just like in The Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell, you find what works for you within the system and build your personal routine and style with those tools. If you are looking for a secret formula or key for your writing, perhaps the problem lies more with you than with the process provided within the pages of this book and so many others like it.
