Who doesn't love Tintin? After my whole family saw and loved the movie, I dug out the pile of books in Lyle's room and started rereading a few, starting with Red Rackham. Of course, reading one makes me want to read the others--we don't have Secret of the Unicorn, and in a weak moment I think we gave away a few of the collections Nate had acquired, but these recreate a different time and a culture that never really existed but is fun to imagine. Recommended!

My favourite character was Tintin.
My favourite character was Tintin.
A nice story but unfortunately quite predictable, a little less fun than I remember Tintin to be.
Notable for its hilarious introduction of Professor Cuthbert Calculus, Red Rackham's Treasure picks up where The Secret of the Unicorn left off and ends with Captain Haddock becoming a member of the landed gentry (!!!) and discovering (of course) his ancestor's hidden treasure. Calculus and his deafness are both irritating and endearing, and his relationship with the Captain becomes increasingly hilarious; we can only hope that he will be included in the movie's sequel if (when) it gets made.

Yksisarvisen salaisuuden tarina jatkuu. Ja tämä on ensimmäinen kirja, jossa tutustutaan professori Tuhatkaunoon
Tintin goes in search of the Treasure and meets the Professor.
I was taking care of a child and the child did not read me. My phone was elsewhere so I read it all and I think I will end up reading 13 and 14 by either tomorrow or Wednesday. It was fine, it was for kids and it's not the style I am used to.
Kind of plodding and uneventful as a narrative – but the interaction between Haddock and Calculus is instantly funny, and the shark-shaped sub looks super-cool.
