This book wasn't really even worth picking up. There were only a few stories in it that I found worth reading.

Postanowiłam w tym roku już na poważnie wziąć się za wyczyszczenie moich regałów z książek zbędnych - nie w moim typie, takich, do których wracać już w przyszłości na pewno nie będę, nietrafionych prezentów bądź nieprzemyślanych, spontanicznych zakupów. Mam spory zbiór tytułów, które kiedyś nabyłam, bo autentycznie mnie ciekawiły, ale z czasem moje preferencje czytelnicze obrały zupełnie inny kierunek - skutkiem czego częścią mojego księgozbioru całkowicie straciłam zainteresowanie. Ale z drugiej strony ciężko i szkoda mi się tak od ręki pozbyć niektórych książek - bo pamiętam jak byłam zaaferowana ich nabyciem i jak wyczekiwałam ich czytania. Mam więc ten dosyć pokaźny stos pozycji, których przed definitywnym pozbyciem się - przynajmniej rozpocznę lekturę. Jak po kilku/kilkunastu stronach nie zaiskrzy i stwierdzę, że nie - teraz to już nie moja bajka - to odłoże bez żalu. Ale chociaż dam im szansę, bo mam przeczucie, że mogę trafić na książki, które mogą okazać się fantastycznym i bardzo satysfakcjonującym przeżyciem.
“Thriller. Antologia opowiadań sensacyjnych mistrzów gatunku” to właśnie jeden z tych tytułów wyciągniętych z mojego stosu zakurzonych książek. Kupiony przed laty, kiedy jeszcze Świat Książki posiadał program subskrypcji, a sprzedaż prowadził głównie drogą wysyłkową. Za ten zbiór zabierałam się już parę razy, ale jednak zawsze koniec końców odstawiałam nieprzeczytany na półkę. W końcu nadszedł ten moment - albo sięgnę po niego teraz - albo nigdy. Thrillery aktualnie na mojej liście ulubionych gatunków literackich plasują się na szarym końcu, ale swego czasu byłam przeogromną fanką i przez długie długie lata był to praktycznie jedyny rodzaj książek jakie czytałam. Nieskromnie, ośmielę się więc nazwać się ekspertką w tym gatunku. I mimo, że doskonale orientuję się w tym gatunku, poznałam wszystkie sztuczki autorów i przerobiłam wszystkie możliwe schematy i motywy - to i tak antologii “Thriller” w paru przypadkach udało się mnie bardzo pozytywnie zaskoczyć. Oczywiście, jak znaczna większość zbiorów opowiadań różnych autorów tak i tu poziom jest bardzo nierówny. Do około ¾ antologię czytało mi się naprawdę dobrze i dopadło mnie spore zdumienie kiedy po dosyć równym poziomie co kolejne czytane opowiadanie okazywało się coraz słabsze - bez pomysłu, nijakie, napisane niczym przez przeciętnego licealistę. Nie mam pojęcia jakim kluczem przy układzie antologii kierował się jej redaktor - popularny, acz bardzo bardzo mizerny literacko rzemieślnik James Patterson. Teksty nie są ani pogrupowane tematycznie, ani chronologicznie ani według nazwisk autorów. Dla wielu czytelników ten brak jednego głównego motywu spajającego wszystkie utwory może okazać się mocno problematyczny - bo w “Thrillerze” tak naprawdę nawet nie ma co zgadywać na jaką historię w następnej kolejności się natknie - czy będzie to thriller prawniczy, historyczny czy może rasowa sensacja, a może szpiegowski kawałek? Groch z kapustą, moi mili! Właśnie ta różnorodność w doborze tematów i mocno nierówny poziom poszczególnych tekstów to główne powody, dla których antologii Pattersona nie proponowałabym na pierwsze spotkanie czytelnikom, którzy w gatunku thrillera dopiero stawiają pierwsze kroki. Za to dla zagorzałych miłośników tego typu literatury, którzy obawiają się, że już wszystkich autorów poznali i chyba wszystkie wydane u nas thrillery przeczytali - może być to całkiem spora ciekawostka i kopalnia nowych pisarzy.

Thriller Anthology 🍒🍒

This anthology was given to me by a neighbor when I lived in Cathedral City. She said it wasn't her thing, and hopefully, although this volume has many of the best selling thriller authors, it does not typify a thriller novel in many of the stories.
Most of the stories were suspenseful and had elements of mystery and intrigue, only a few really captured me. But I guess it depends on how you define the word "thriller".
The stories I enjoyed most were:
Epitaph by J.A. Konrath
James Penney ' s New Identity by Lee Child
The Portal by John Lescroart and M.J. Rose
Man Catch by Christopher Rice
Interlude At Duane's by F. Paul Wilson
I would probably not recommend this because it had so few stories I really enjoyed. Edited by James Patterson, this just falls flat.

This book has really disapointed me. One reason for this is the big number of spy stories. I'm not a fan of spy stories, and I have a great disconciderance for books of this kind. Movies go, but books... not really. The reason why I liked the book, and didn't mark it one star were the few stories that weren't about cops, spies and world conspirations, stories that talk about simple things, normal life and things that can really happen. A disapointment, but not a regret. These stories make the book readable and enjoyable. Well, it felt like finding something good in a rubble pile.

Where was the thriller? I felt like a lot of it had to do with more government based plots instead of having someone on the edge of their seat plots. Not horrible though.

Good book. The majority of the stories were entertaining. There were a few that weren't my taste. Overall a nice surprise.
