3.01 AVERAGE

La primera mitad muy lenta, la segunda parte innecesariamente desagradable y el final un despropósito. En general bastante decepcionante, pero por lo menos el planteamiento es original.

This was.... fine? I guess?
Definitely glad I read it AFTER a day trip to the West Virginia mountains.

This one was a struggle. I had to put it down and come back. It’s a shame because I really enjoyed TSIYH, but this was such a flop.

It’s like the author saw Deliverance, AHS: Roanoke, and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and said, “Yes, I could combine all those into one book!”

It does not work as one book. Sad.

3.5 🌟 This is book is a great example of why women will ALWAYS choose the bear.

🐻

The first half is an excruciating view of two teenage girls who have no business being out in the woods on a through hike by themselves as they bicker and squabble.
The second half is a deranged Appalachian nightmare of human horror that escalates drastically the closer to the finale you get.

I really enjoyed this and it did a good job of scaring me! The suspense that the author built up for the first half was just like a great horror movie where you’re waiting for the jump scare. I thought it also had some good bits of feminism in there and discussion of empowerment and consent.

Honestly this was ridiculous, but I'm rounding to a three because it was heavily entertaining. Everything else was lacking but you know,,, It wasn't the worst.
