Wow! What a chilling and horror-filled read! I really enjoyed reading this book though enjoyed might not be the right word choice. The story was gripping and had you both turning the page and wanting to snap the book shut before you could get even further ensnared in the foggy, damp woods. This novel definitely accomplished its task of being a thriller and a horror novel and I was thoroughly chilled by the girls' mishaps and dangers that they constantly encountered. The writing style had a sort of grim beauty about it that gave a really good depth to the woods that make up the setting. I loved how it was separated into parts of being together and apart rather than chapters as it gave a cool, mysterious fear to the story. The only critique I might have would be to lengthen out the ending a tiny bit. It ended rather ambiguously and while that can be a good thing sometimes, with the events that happened in this book, I think it might have served the story better to have a little more closure. Overall I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a gripping horror novel!

The demands of nature are palpable in The Woods Are Always Watching. We feel every ache and pain as the new-to-hiking protagonists Jose and Neena try to find a happy ending to their dwindling friendship. While I enjoyed this oppressive atmosphere and the weight of expectations both of the girls carry with them, the book devolves into a predictable mess centering uninspired, caricature villains.
