Yeah no this was not good. I didn’t care about these stupid boring teens. And they were REALLY STUPID. The interesting part started around 60 70% mark which is too little too late.

Damn! The woods are a scary but humans make things so much worse. Is it all in our heads or are our fears going to be validated?
Perfect book for camping

I read this one before I started THERE’S SOMEONE IN YOUR HOUSE and I liked it way more. It’s YA and super light but the descriptions and settings really blew me away. So much gore! A tad unbelievable but that’s ok, I jumped right in. If you’re looking for a fun palette cleanser this one is perfect.

This is the 2nd book I have read by this lady and at this point I can say that she just can't do horror. Majority of this stupid book was 2 girls fighting and hiking. NOTHING happens for the majority of this book. It was a snoozefest and then when things do start to come up Miss Stephanie played into the Appalachian hurtful stereotype while saying 2 young girls are so stupid as to go on this massive camping trip in woods they know nothing about.

I don’t go in depth with the spoilers but if you know what I’m referencing then there are some. You’ve been warned.

Not great but not bad either. The story is fast paced and a quick read; however, some of the events are pretty unbelievable. I will say though, that there are true survival stories out there where equally insane events happen (Mary Vincent and Aron Ralston are prime examples of very similar events) so I’ll buy it. The Jurassic Park style ending though? Gotta say, a little out there.

I know this will annoy some but I appreciate that there was basically no backstory for the “men” that Josie and Neena encounter. I don’t need it and I honestly don’t care about it. The story is about the girls, not the monsters that chase them. In fact, I was annoyed by the two paragraphs that gave the smallest amount of possible backstory for them. If you wanted to give their backstory then have some chapters in their point of view. Don’t give me this “Neena saw an abusive mother” bullshit like the killers lives flash before their eyes and not their own. Literally no one in the girls situation is thinking about what brought their abductor to the place they currently are.

I’ll also note that Josie and Neena aren’t the most likable at first with all of their bickering, but it does make for a (sort of) satisfying ending. I do wish there was a short epilogue as, similar to a movie, the story just ends.

If you’re a fan of Stephanie Perkins, survival stories, horror, or just want a (kind of) scary book to read during the spooky season, I guess give it a go. Otherwise, just move on to the next book on your TBR as this one is pretty unremarkable.

This book was very intense and had a sense of creepy impending doom from pretty early on. I liked the short chapters and short length overall- very quick suspenseful read. Of course many of the happenings were pretty unbelievable. It was also pretty gory which I don’t love
