Very predictable plot. Nothing special as far as twists and turns. Kind of a let down as far as books go. Wouldn’t recommend it unless it’s just in front of you.

3 stars. This was better than There’s Someone Inside Your House. I thought the plot was really interesting and there were a lot of tense moments and I even grew to tolerate the main characters, Neena and Josie, but the beginning was tough to get into and the ending was so anticlimactic that it left me feeling disappointed and underwhelmed in the end.

Neena and Josie felt like the same character. There was nothing that stuck out that made them seem like individuals except one is poor but smart and the other has money but is ditzy. Their bickering was annoying and I didn’t like either of them but once the action got started and they had to fight for survival I started to warm up to them a bit more. They go through a lot but they are such strong characters and I was impressed by how they didn’t crack when things were looking dicey.

The stakes are high and again, there were some moments that were very intense. I just wish the ending had been better. It wraps up way too quickly and neatly and I was left wanting more. Overall, this wasn’t bad at all. It’s nothing special but it was a quick read. I do miss Perkins’s contemporary romances though.

Another Very Solidly Okay Car Audiobook. Genuinely spooky and more gory/violent/just generally icky (I usually don't expect sadistic murderers threatening lots of sexual violence in my YA, and this kinda knocked me out with it), but I thought that the ending was kind of cartoonish, and, just like I criticized with Horrid, there was no real sense of resolution at the end! I read a fair bit of YA horror, and I think there's a difference between letting an ending dangle just enough to leave you feeling unsettled and not wrapping up all the plot threads you planted. This definitely felt more like the latter to me. Props on being appropriately spooky for spooky szn tho (I also started this a few weeks after I got into the podcast National Park After Dark, so coincidentally, it tied in really nicely. Would have liked it better if the bad guy turned out to be Mothman, though.)

Also props for one (1) author being willing to talk about the very obvious but rarely acknowledged tonal shift that took place with the Berenstain Bears books.

Lower rating because of how it ended. A good build but then it was over… cliff hanger! I want to know what happened to the girls at the end! What happened with their injuries? Did anyone go back into the forest after they left? Did they still go off to college? Come onnn, give me more!

The last half of this book bumped it up to 3.5 stars for sure!
Be warned the first half is full of YA teen girl whining/drama.
