I have tried to read the series a couple of times, but never made it past the first book. This time it stuck. I enjoyed everything except for the fourth novel, which seemed pretty pointless. There was always an "I'm making this up as I go along" feel to the series and I had trouble following the plot of all five books, but the inspired lunacy kept me engaged and I'm not sure that Douglas Adams is the place you'd look to for coherent narratives anyway. Glad to have picked up this substantial piece of pop culture that I neglected when it came out.

A fundamental work in absurdist sci-fi. The humor is ridiculous and deadpan.
It is a wild romp, doesn't really care for sequential events and is largely concerned with setting up it's various jokes (both short and long). Very smart/witty, but not a whole lotta depth.
Arthur is by far the best. Fenchurch is also quite stellar. I'm a little disappointed there wasn't more closure or resolution for them.
