Validating, informative but also a book I will keep remembering, keep coming back to for advice
This book is brilliant and so timely - but don’t listen to me, I’m just some random white girl. Listen to Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinené and all the amazing women interviewed for this book about growing up as a black girl in Britain today. Incredibly well researched, covering topics from education to dating, this really is a bible. I’m honoured to have been able to read it and be thoroughly educated on issues I don’t know enough about. It should be a handbook in every high school classroom.

Thoroughly enjoyed, I wish I read this before I went into Uni because I would have had a complete different outlook. Admittedly, a few chapters did get a bit boring but I found the information interesting to learn. I like that it went into detail about a lot of things I resonate with as well as things I didn’t even know were a thing. Would recommend this book.
V good, super educational!!! Arguably as educational about the black British woman experience as why i’m no longer talking to white ppl, but less historical maybe. More recent examples? Idk it’s really good. And at times very very heavy and kinda depressing. It didn’t really go for optimism it went for yeah racism exists and yeah you have to work extra hard against it but it’s not going instantly away so here is how to do the work. So like, it equips you which is optimistic in itself.
Although this book doesn't mention anything new, it was a great read for me personally because it validated me. It gave me words and terms to describe my daily encounters and although I am not a black British woman, I am still a black foreign woman in a predominantly racist and xenophobic country. This book made me feel validated and affirmed and that I something as black women I feel we need from time to time.
A book well worth the read but felt it’s purpose was somewhat lost in anecdotes and statistics
I think it's a great book but I don't think I am the target reader. It became a repetition of narrations of things I've already experienced and learnt the lessons of what a black woman goes through and how to navigate the world, so I'm not getting any new revelations.
I do find myself thinking "I wish I had this book when I was 16 -21 years old" This is defo a 'must read' for that age group where you are just beginning to enter into the real world.

Great book for those who don't know or understand life as a black woman. However, as a black woman I found it a bit boring and couldn't finish it as I am already aware of the challenges I have faced and will face due to my race and gender. The book's content was nothing new to me hence the 3 star review and why I couldn't finish it.
However, I acknowledge that this book would be fantastic for people who want to know more or are not aware of the racial and gender divides/issues that black girls face.
