Ok I finished this in less then 24 hours! Would’ve been one sitting if I didn’t have to ADULT! This book was amazing, I loved the take one a virus epidemic. Very unique to me and great pace! Creepy in some parts, and gruesome in others! I already got book two on my lap ready to start!

If you want an action filled, heart pounding, edge of your seat, nail biting book, read this!!!This book sucks you in from the very beginning! I had a hard time putting it down, total intensity and fast paced. The imagery and graphics this book invoked stay with you and you question yourself “what would I do!?” I can not wait to read the next book in this series!! 5 stars all the way!

By far one of my favourite apocalyptic novels with plot twists and unholy cliffhangers at every turn. Remade has everything you could possibly want from an Armageddon: pandemic flesh-eating, shape-changing, thinking virus, battle of the fittest, emotional moments, unexpected developments and gory deaths. For young adults with a love for apocalypses- non-zombie style. 5 out of 5.

From the first sentence I was hooked. With nauseating, stomach-churning descriptions, you have no choice but to picture the gruesome scenes as you read; and connect with the characters as they fight for their lives against a deadly pathogen that is quite possibly smarter than them. Throughout, I found myself holding my breath at the suspense along with Leon, Grace and their mother; bursting with rage at the atrocities of another character's’ behaviour; and wobbling like a leaf at the poignant moments where characters I had gotten attached to suddenly broke down or, even worse, got caught by the virus. We may have only known them for a few pages, but Scarrow makes you care about them and how they fare in their new plague-ridden world.

I will admit that at first, I wasn’t so keen on our main protagonist, Leon. He was the sort of whiny teenage boy who certainly was not cut out for playing the hero or surviving the apocalypse, never mind looking after his mum and sister. For this, I can forgive him. The three had just moved from New York to London after his parents had a divorce, he was adjusting to life at a new school and couldn’t seem to make friends with his new classmates. This newborn survivalist went through a brilliant character development and I found I had suddenly started liking him more and more.

There is absolutely no way I can wait until Alex writes the next book in this thrilling new series, the wait would be too much for me to take. I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a bit of blood and guts and gore every now and then. My 10-year-old sister is already starting to read it as I type this. She seems to be liking it as well.

It’s not often that a book, even a good Stephen King thriller, makes my skin crawl and I feel like things are on me. With Plague Land, I scratched while reading, and even after I put it down. It’s the kind of book that definitely, gets under your skin.

Leon, his younger sister Grace, and their mother have just moved to London from New York. What begins as as short news story, barely heard by most, soon is front and center worldwide. As Leon and his family try to escape the city, and then survive what is described as the plague, we as the readers, as well as the characters, quickly realize that there is no way this story can end well.

The plot moves quickly, and it’s easy to be caught up in the story. While the book seems to cover six months, there is a lot that happens, and even in the lulls of the story, there is important foreshadowing pointing clues to what will happen moving forward. While it would be easy to write this book off as a typical post-apocalyptic book, there are twist and turns throughout that you won’t be expecting.

The characters are a bit bland, but still enjoyable. Leon seems to be stuck between “am a I a boy or am I a man” and his indecision drove me crazy. Overall, Freya is my favorite character, followed closely by Grace.

Overall, the book is an easy and enjoyable read. It was a nice break from a lot of Young Adult Fiction books where there is always a hidden love story. If a story about the world coming to an end could be considered refreshing. This is definitely it.

Strangely addictive despite the poor writing. All characters were paper thin, the plot twists generally unsurprising and sometimes corny (Trojan horse… really, sir? Really?), the virus worked really strangely and there was so much unnecessary, gratuitous gore. But I read it all regardless, all the eye-rolling aside lol. Fast food typa book
