She was 13-15 years old when she wrote this, wow. The fact that I relate to her in soo many ways shows how she was a normal person, a girl going through puberty. The end is terribly sad, because I think we all know what happened to her.

I have read this book a few times, but not since I was a teenager and I forgot how raw and emotional and graphic and detailed this is. As I was reading this book I started to feel like I was 14 all over again, like we understood each other. And then there would be another mention of the outside world and I would remember the reality of her situation. 
I finished this at work so I had a hard time holding back my tears as I read the afterword. I try not to think about all the work Anne could have done with the years of her life that were stolen. Instead, it seems imperative to thank Anne's father Otto for having followed his daughters wishes and allowed the publication of her work.
"I don't want to have lived in vain like most people. I want to be useful or bring enjoyment to all people, even those I've never met. I want to go on living even after my death!"

Vi har nog alla hört talas om Anne Frank men alla har inte läst hennes dagbok. Innan jag läste boken var Anne en symbol för judar och någon som gömt sig för nazister. Efter att ha läst boken inser jag att Anne inte är någon symbol på det sättet. Anne är en vanlig tjej som på grund av olika omständigheter blivit en symbol. 

Anne är för mig snarare en tjej som skrivit ner sina tankar, förhoppningar och upplevelser och på något sätt omvandlats till en symbol. Även om Anne skriver om att gömma sig, vara rädd och diskrimineras eftersom hon är jude så kan ändå jag känna igen mig i hennes historia. 

Jag har aldrig behövt gömma mig och jag är inte ens jude men ändå kan jag se mig själv i Anne. Kanske är det för att jag också är en tonåring eller bara för att våra personligheter är lika (vilket jag inte vet om det stämmer). Men ett som är säkert är att Anna framför allt är en tjej, en person, och inte en symbol. 

Jag rekommenderar starkt att läsa boken även om den är lite tråkig ibland (man kan inte förvänta sig spänning från en 13 årig tjej som sitter instängd i ett hus (vilket nu när jag tänker efter är en ganska bra beskrivning av mitt liv fast jag är inte 13)). Definitivt läsvärd bok framför allt för att se hur en vanlig tjej resonerade om livet under andra världskriget. Det är en viktig bok och jag är glad att den blev tryckt, inte minst för att jag förstår att Anne skulle älskat att få vara med om det.

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is quite a powerful and insightful read. While she does talk about what it was like to hide from the Nazis, she also opened up about normal things that every teenager goes through in their lifetime.

The Diary of Anne Frank is a deeply important account of the Holocaust, especially in my opinion because it's written from a child's perspective, which is a unique perspective that should be more closely studied. Anne's thoughts range from tortured at the knowledge of the war's horrors, to the delight and confusion of adolescence, to boredom, to insightful observations and clever remarks. Remembering her brings gratitude to my life that I haven't personally experienced her plight, but more importantly her words are a reminder to prioritize resisting bigotry, ignorance, racism, and interpersonal hierarchy.
