It's the Inferno. You probably know what you're getting into with this one. Just a note: like all translated works of poetry, the quality of the translation you get makes a considerable difference. Had to bounce around quite a bit before finding one that was the right balance of lyrical and intelligible.
Unpopular opinion: the Inferno is the least satisfying of the three parts of the Comedia. Gives you a pretty good idea of a medieval Christian worldview, but personally I'm much more inclined to imagine an idea of the afterlife articulated by St. Pope John Paul II, who explicitly rejected the existence of a literal Hell. So obviously, as I don't believe in what Dante was envisioning here, I didn't find the iconic setting itself particularly compelling. But I do immensely enjoy this pairing of Dante with the poet Virgil, gives one the sense of a meeting of two worlds through their best poets.

Underneath the insanely verbose writing and rants about 13-14th century Italian politics there is a very interesting conflict within Dante’s self insert character about what a just afterlife means.

Didn't really care for this book and wasn't interested in its commentary, but there were some great one-liners.
