3.5* I enjoyed the first of this series more; this just lacked the overall punch like the first one. It was good, but not nearly as twisty. I did see there is another one coming out this summer and I’m looking forward to seeing how Lily and Kimball move forward. I really wanted more of the family dynamics with Joan and her sister and also Richard and his cousin. Not a bad read, just not amazing either.

4.25/5. A novel that goes through a weird sophomore phase but turns out fairly strong and compelling. I actually really enjoyed this.

I enjoyed this one just as much as The Kind Worth Killing, and sequels can be hit or miss for me. I really enjoyed how the book wasn’t so much about the twists, but about understanding the characters & why they do what they do. It was a fun ride, and I still adore Lilly, even if she’s obviously morally gray.
dark mysterious tense

Swanson is back with another “are-these-people-serious?” thriller where everyone is just a little (maybe a lot) nuts. I actually like Lily which might also make me nuts? Swanson’s characters are shady, snarky, and possibly sociopathic, making every page feel like a guilty pleasure. Just when you think you figured it out—there’s another plot twist.

I felt this one less exciting as the first - possibly because Joan was insufferable lol but it was still a fantastic read.
