I was so shocked by the plot twist in this book, I genuinely had no idea what was going to happen and I pride myself on being quite good with predicting the plot twists in books. I loved Ivy's determination and the way she developed through the book. I really enjoyed that the whole book is in her POV but then every so often we have a chapter from one of the other 5 girls but we only get one from each of them. Those chapters give such a great insight into those characters and their motivations and it made me love them. Queen Mor is iconic. She's cruel and sadistic but some of the bargains she makes are HILARIOUS.

To be completely honest, I went into this with low expectations. I'm not typically the kind of person who reads books with fae, and the books with fae that I've heard of have very mixed reviews. To be even more honest, the beautiful cover is what convinced me to read this.
So, I gave it a shot and I wasn't disappointed at all. This was shockingly good. Is it a bunch of tropes mashed together? Yes. But, at least this formed a cohesive story. There's actually a solid plot. And an insane plot twist that I didn't see coming from even five feet in front of me.
The writing was great. First person present tense isn't my favorite, but it was done well here.
The characters were fantastic. I loved that we got to see a glimpse of the other girls' lives and thoughts throughout the book. All of the girls were characters that you could root for, even if it's not for her getting Prince Bram's hand. They weren't just the competition; they were fully formed women who worked together very well.
I will definitely have to keep an eye out for the next book in this series. This was done very well.

oooh I really, really liked this. Didn't see the end coming.
Bit scared that, like with Witch Haven/Hunt, I'll LOVE the first book and then the 2nd... not so much. But hey, holding out hope for an equally good end to this story!

This was surprisingly good! I’ve been really enjoying historical fiction recently and this hit the spot even though there were magical realism elements to it.
I think the trials could’ve had a bit more punch and the romance subplot seemed a little misplaced but overall I really enjoyed this!
I’m very keen to see where the next book goes because everything hit the fan in the last 50 pages.
