It's Bridgerton with a splash of Hunger Games / Triwizard Tournament.

This season's young women are debuting in society and lining up to make The Rose Bargain with immortal Queen Mor for qualities to attract them suitors. The Queen announces that this year they can sign up to compete to wed her fae son Prince Bram. Those who chose to compete undergoe various tests and trials to become Bram's bride.

Lady Ivy Benton signs up seeing this as an opportunity to uncover the truth behind her older sister Lydia's s mysterious disappearance and reappearance, and to restore her family's reputation in society.

The prince's charming brother Emmett has his own quest in mind... to undo the Queen's bargains. He coaches Ivy to help her gain Bram's affection with the hope of winning the contest and become his princess. Ivy helps Emmett to look for a way to reverse the bargains.

I can't give this book enough stars. I loved it... it could well end up being my favourite book I read this year.

I just loved the tension and the romance. Some of the plots twists might have a broken my heart a little.

I have a tendency to find fantasy to be a bit of a chore to read as my brain just can't keep up, but this book was perfect for me as it wasn't too heavy that way.

I need book 2 for tomorrow morning please and thank you!!!

So binge-able and quick too read! Was fully immersed. What a ride! Loved the use of fae lore and twisting it into different plot points. Also loved the little bits of POVs from the other girls. Can’t wait for the next book.

I can feel the joy the author had while writing the book. The storyline is great and I really liked the characters.

As good as the storyline itself is, the writing and actions of the characters are way to modern and it took me out of the story a lot.
If a story is set in the 1800s among dukes, marques and royalty they would not wave like a boy in a 90s movie across the room at people or say things like "Nope" or "Got it, boss". Or know to salute (even as a joke) when they don't have any existing form of military in this alternate reality.
If the writing were adjusted to sound a bit more 1800s it would make the book overall even better. I wonder why none of this was caught in the edits.

Overall I enjoyed this book, I would have loved it even more if the writing matched the background it was supposed to be set in.
Will I read the next book? Absolutely.
