I am not being dramatic when I say I have no idea what I just read
Liked: the premise and the writing at first as well as the vibes. The trials were interesting and I liked the details of the prices paid for the bargains, the faeries and how they were portrayed. The complicated feelings inherent to sisterhood. The motivations of each contestants.
Not so much: the plot was kinda lackluster (so was the "plot twist"), 0 chemistry between the FMC and any of the potential love interests, the inn chapter, the quality of the writing really plummeted as the book went on imo, I liked the sister's motivation behind her bargain but everything that happened when her bargain came true felt very half-baked and out of character from what we know of her.

I started this book off thinking I’d only rate it 3 stars but by the end I bumped it up to 4. I went into this not knowing what to expect and I think that’s what made it such a fun read for the 2nd half of the book. I do feel like the ending was very rushed and there could have been more development but overall liked the vibes and the random POV backgrounds of the girls. It was a more than average, enjoyable read.

This isn’t a ground shifting and profound book but I had fun!!! All the criticism I have read of this book (intelligent criticism not hate) is absolutely valid and I do agree with almost all of it and objectively this is probably more of a 3,5 stars but again! I had fun!!! It’s a quick easy fun read which is just what I needed and you best believe I WILL be picking up the sequel when it comes out!!
Comparing this to the cruel prince is doing it a disservice tho. As a folk of the air loverrrrrrr I do think this pales in comparison and most of the similarities boil down to being fae stories. Still very very enjoyable as it’s own unit but I think comparing books to wildly popular books and making that a main part of its identity will almost always lead to a bit of a let down

Fae books aren’t typically for me but the typical fae tropes are not strong in this book. There was very little trickery and spoiler: only one chapter takes place in the other world . The bargains were interesting at first but the author expected me to remember who bargained what for what price and it was frustrating to have to keep flipping back to beginning chapters to sort it out. I didn’t love or hate the FMC, and the two love interests were interesting if a bit cliche at first. The plot felt weak and I don’t like that it took until the final few chapters for me to realize why the author did what she did. Two of the side characters have an absolutely fascinating story and I’m sorry to say that I wish it had been their story I’d read. But to end on a good note, the author is a great writer and had some excellent prose. I think her romance skills are far better than her fantasy skills, and I’d gladly read any future romance novels she might write.
