It was eye opening to hear stories from queer people, story about black church, and unlearning shame stood out to me. Some stories left me confused but overall inspirational read. I was confused about last picture on back cover because as I read each chapter matches pictures on back in order but I didn’t see essay for that person

This made me feel like I wasn’t alone in the world which is a weird feeling to have but here I am lol

This was an amazing collection of stories from the Black community. Through Eva hast, there were nuggets of information, on shame, on the "deserving" language, healing, and much more. I would highly recommend. HIGHLY HIGHLY.

A powerful anthology on the vulnerabilities particularly experience by Black individuals. Each essay is easily relatable to the human experience, but helps demonstrate the unique experience of the Black community. I'm also incredibly grateful to have increased exposure to more Black authors/researchers/organizers that I had not previously read/known about. My favorite quotes (both by Tarana Burke):
"Our humanity, our individual and collective vulnerability, needs and deserves some breathing room."

"We often carry our trauma in similar ways, but the roads that led us to the trauma are all so different. We must pay attention to that road. That road is our humanity."

I am in awe of all the stories and lived experiences. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars because it felt a bit yucky that most contributors sited Brene in their stories. Felt forced maybe a bit of nepotism I’m not sure. Still amazing none the less

"Lived experience always trumps academic experience." Brene' Brown

You must engage with black humanity to be an anti-racist. Tarana Burke paraphrased.

Very powerful. Each essay is from a different author selecting a part of his, her, or their live experience as a Person of Color. Racism still exists. Yes, each of these individuals have reached a level of success to even be noticed to be a part of this collection. However, when you read about their struggles and what they are doing to make the world a better place offers hope.

How did I find this book? Megan Rapinoe selected Unbound by Tarana Burke for her September 2021 The Call In book club through Literati. It was not available through my library at the time and I selected the only book by Burke available through the library. After starting this Unbound is now available.

I had a hard time finishing this book in hardback, but thought maybe the audio version would be different. It definitely was even more powerful to HEAR these stories. This book is a beautiful compilation and I'm so glad I gave it a 3rd chance.
