Escaping From Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco is the third book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. This book was not as great as the first two books. I still really enjoyed the murder mystery aspect of this book. However, I hated the "love triangle" mess added into this book. I also hated that Thomas was not as present due to the stupid love triangle shit. I would have loved this more if the love triangle aspect was removed.

I absolutely loved Thomas and I thought he carried this book (when he was present). He always makes me laugh and I adore him. This is why I was annoyed with Audrey and her plan with the Ringmaster. I did want to throttle the Ringmaster many times in this book. I did not understand some of the actions Audrey made in regards with said Ringmaster.

However, the murder mystery was very entertaining. That plot and Thomas were the main reasons that I was able to finish this book. I still think this series is worth reading, however book 3 is my least favorite so far. I am excited to read the last book in this series!

I am...not entirely sure what just happened?

I have been waiting for this book for ages and I feel just kind of...? ?!

Audrey Rose has never annoyed me so much, and I know she really grinds the gears of a lot of people but holy shit? This book is 430 pages and she spent 350 of the moon-eyed over some dude she just met who gives her the heebie geebies but yo. He's got dimples, so he's a lot less stabby than anyone on board, I guess?

But is he Thomas?

No.

Thomas spends the majority of this novel in mention, and there's such a severe lack of him that Audrey Rose becomes almost unbearable. This girl has faced a hell of a lot in recent months, I get it. But oh my god. Knowing what we know from the first two books, any sort of perception this girl has about anything is shut off like a light switch as soon as she sets foot on the boat.

I really love this series, I genuinely truly do. But this book was such a let-down compared to the first two that it pains me to say that my 5-Star hopeful for the year is reduced all the way down to a 3 stars. All's I gotta say is I just hope the fourth one brings out the same finesse and common sense Audrey Rose this book severely lacks.

Mar. 2018-

WE HAVE A COVER AND SHE'S STUNNING.

I'm ready for this book to save my entire 2018.

I almost threw the book across the room at particularly annoying parts but it was delightful and I would recommend. I don't even feel like I can critique it because it's just my absolute favorite book ever. I cannot wait for the fourth book, but also dismay its potential release because I do not want this series to ever end. Did I mention I love this series? Because I love this series.

This book felt like reading an entirely different Audrey Rose. Her character development felt completely undone in some scenes. Her motivations didn’t make sense at times and I just couldn’t connect with her in the same way. I still love Thomas and the setting is amazing in this book but something felt off.

Another great book in the Jack the Ripper series, while I really enjoyed this book, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first two book in the series. But I think that was because if the setting in this book. I’m not a huge carnival and or ship person fan.
I did however greatly enjoy the writing and characters. Of course I still live for Wadsworth and Cresswell and just adore them together. I love how their relationship progresses and their overcome obstacles over obstacles. I love their banter and humor just as much as their sweet moments.
While it was not my favorite setting I still liked the suspense and murder mystery we got, like in previous books it keeps us on the edge of the seat and guessing. Some things were pretty easy to foretell buy others came by surprise.
I also should say that I enjoyed the audiobook a bit more than the actual books. It just adds a bit more to the story, I have not gotten the audio book for this book but most definitely will soon and listen to it again.
I also still think that this series would make a great TV series and I would so be down for that.
Overall I enjoyed the book, the writing and most of all the characters and I’m looking forward to the next book.
I rate it 4★
