I read this when I was in elementary school and I've always loved the story except for the 'romance' that was shoved in here between Winnie and Tuck. Like she's a literal child? Other than that, this was a beautiful illustrated adaptation of the novel. The artwork really brought back that nostalgic feeling of when I first read the novel and the placement of the text within in nature was very clever. Winnie was excellently done and it was a wonderful remake of the classic.

Never read this as a kid, but it offers up some interesting philosophical quandaries and overall I think it’s well written for a middle grade book.

Appreciate the story just wish there wasn’t a weird ass age gap “relationship” luckily they didn’t breathe life into it so it’s cool w me

This was one of the first books that I read YEARS ago when I was in elementary school. It's been so long since I've read it that I feel like this was my first time reading it LOL. Overall, it was a wonderfully short book about the little adventure of Winnie and her new Tuck friends!

When I first was read this book aloud as a child, I remember it leaving a hole in my heart…a beautifully aching ending. As I reread it as an adult, that same aching was felt again.
hopeful sad

This was a short and simple read, yet I enjoyed it. It was fast paced of course only being 139 pages, but I think Babbitt made good use of those few pages and developed the story well. It was a sweet and sad read, with a realistic ending in a fantasy world.
