Okay that ending... MIND BLOWN. I love how this ties back to Air Awakens.
My mind is still spinning....
Vi has made it to the Crescent Continent - has made it to Taavin.
Back and forth they swung, a pendulum that never lost its momentum. The closer she got to him one moment, the further he felt the next.
She’s on a mission to rescue her father. I know and love Aldrik from Air Awakens, so I was eager to see this too.
I loved the exploration of the Crescent Continent. The morphi, the elfin - Elise has taken standard characters in fantasy and created a unique world for them.
My biggest problem was with the ending.
I am nervous but excited to see how this plays out.
Read the Air Awakens series before this one. Seriously - if you like fantasy go read it.

I hate time travel as a plot device. It feels like a cop out. I might change my tune if I can see my favorite Baldair again. If I can trust anyone to take a trope I hate and make it work - it’s going to be Elise Kova.Read the Air Awakens series before this one. Seriously - if you like fantasy go read it.

Unbelievable!
Okay, that's my review. LOL. But honestly, I was blown away by how this book grabbed me with gobs of action right at the start and never let me go. By the time the first action sequence ends, you're already invested in what's happening and ready for more.
Of course, Kova brings Taavin in to this book, but he's actually there, like there, there. So we get to experience and know him like never before as well as see how Vi reacts to him in person, and I love how their relationship grows...
That was all good, but I honestly have to say, where Kova is taking this series is seriously amazing. She's said that she's had the concept for the series since before she wrote Air Awakens and that become VERY clear as the events in this book unfold. Be still my heart, I'm now thinking back through Air Awakens and seeing how she's slowly laid the groundwork for where she leaves this book. I'm loving speculating as to where she will take it next to ultimately defeat the nasty villains.
Bring on Book 4!!!

Elise Kova is damn lucky she just released Sovereign Sacrefice with all those bombshells she just dropped at the end of this one. If I had to wait for the next one I don't think I would be able to handle it.
SUPER MEGA MIND EXPLOSION
GOTTA GO STARE AT THE WALL FOR A WHILE BRB

Holy eff these books just get better and better!
The action to start off this book was AMAZING. I was hooked right away and so invested in Taavin and Vi’s journey. You never know who to trust in this book and where the adventure will turn next. I love how Kova plays with the idea of destiny in these books. Can Vi truly escape what she has seen? Or will it all come to pass no matter what steps she takes to avoid it?
The developing romance in this book was extraordinary. I have a huge soft spot for Taavin and Kova knows exactly how to rip out your heart, stomp on it and then shove it back in. Please give me something to hope for in this next book!!

Elise Kova is going to kill me. I almost died reading Chosen Champion. So many things happened and my jaw definitely dropped. I am in awe of Kova’s talent. She really knows how to tell a story. It took everything in my power not to immediately pick up the next book, but it was also two in the morning and I really needed to go to sleep.
Vi Solaris is a girl with so much responsibility. She’s brave and daring. Always fighting the restrictions that her royal blood places on her. She’s doing what might seem like the wrong thing to others, but she knows it’s a journey she needs to take to save the world.
The betrayal was real in this book. There was one character in particular that we learned some surprising things about and then she stabs Vi in the bad (literally). I was so shocked when we found out her real identity and even more shocked when she shows her true motivations.
I loved getting to see more of the Air Awakens world and I’m beyond excited to see the Crescent Continent in the next book. I love this book. I love this series. I love these characters. I love Elise Kova for giving me these books to love and adore. If you haven’t read Air Awakens please stop what you’re doing and go read it right now.

Honestly I’m torn between 3 and 4 stars but it’s not a 3.5 star book. I don’t know if that makes sense to you but it does to me.
There was a lot to like about this book but not a lot to love about it. I think this series plays too much into the “bring new readers into the series” even though it is VERY clearly connected to not only the Air Awakens series but the Golden Guard trilogy. For new readers, they get a lot of detailed history and information but for readers who have been a part of the canon for a while, like myself, everything is taking too long.
I think the love arc following a similar pattern to that of Vhalla and Aldrik in Air Awakens is meh. I am over couples growing together, then breaking apart, only to have to come back together. I think this series feels as though it is lacking in originality to me because I have seen some of the flashes of what’s to come in the previous books and the characters don’t feel any different than the ones we’ve seen before.
But the fighting styles, the magic, and the expanded world building are all making this worthwhile. It took me a long time to get through this one because of characters but I’m quite enjoying the stuff outside of the characters. I want to see the big bad villain, I want to learn more about the expanded magic system and other continents! I just feel like I’m being bogged down by Vhalla 2.0.
Will I continue? Yes. Will I enjoy this series more than Air Awakens? Probably not.
