This book is so good! If you wondered who the man at the end of Book 2 was, and what he would do to Gemma, OR where Kass was…. The answers are here!!! And they just bring up all sorts of feelings!!!
This starts where that finished…. And we soon figure out that Jareth has returned…. But why? And what happened to him and the others after Kassen told them to run? This information will be surprising.. not saying why. But this part of the book leads to…. Trying not to spoil while writing this is difficult!!
While reading and listening to this, many questions about the content crossed my mind. During a conversation Gemma had with a physician at one point in the story, the physician asked her if she needed help getting away from Kassen, which initially made me bristle…. But then made me think.. would the story twist there? Cause we all know how fond Pepper Winters is with twists and turns!!! It made my continued journey through this book all the more interesting! To say that the rest of it kept me glued Tobit is an understatement!
Pepper Winters has done it again.. not that this is a surprise to anyone who reads her books… this is an intriguing and extremely well written tale of people who have suffered immeasurable ordeal that, as a human, I can hardly fathom. The hardest part for me is that there are animals in this world who actually DO these things to other people. That they met the end the way they did, which we already knew about in Book 2… is more than they deserved. They should have suffered…

“I have you. And that makes me the richest of them all. You’re the only thing I need. The rest...it’s nothing compared to you.” -Kas
I seriously love the way the characters connect and just complete each other. Also so happy with how this book ended after the cliff hanger of the last two.. Kas and Gemma have had such a rocky time but it was great to see them so happy and Kas finally starting to live a life that was taken from him.The darkness of the series is what pulled me in but the light at the end was definitely worth it.
Really hoping she still writes about the rest of the Fable kids, super intrigued to learn more about Jareth as well as the rest of them.

It has taken me weeks to decide to write this review. I’m just gonna wing it at this point and write out my honest thoughts.
I’m a huge fan of this author. And this is my first series of hers that I’ve read that I just did not like at all.
The plot was fine, the characters were just horrible. The repetitiveness was so hard to read through without DNFing the series.
It’s the I hate you, I’m going to run, but I need to stay to care for you bullshit. Over and over again.
Book 3 starts right back where book 2 ends. Where we meet a side character and he has his own way of trying to help Kass get through his PTSD.
Of course Kass’s memories magically come back and he remembers Gemma and grovels. And says how sorry he is. It’s been like this over and over and over again throughout the books.
Of course the mansion went up in flames and that was how Gemma and Kass got out.
Of course they got away with everything that they have done especially Kass.
Of course he was magically put together and they get married and have an HEA.
I’m not one to tell people how to live their lives or question peoples love. But I had trouble believing in this love story. This was not a normal captive romance. Kass had zero redeeming qualities about him. He doesn’t know you, he doesn’t want you there, he rapes you, and he is constantly choking you until you pass out.
But you feel bad for him because in his sleep he talks about his past. And you feel like you have to stay there and help him? And then fall in love with him?
And when the sex is consensual, and he has flashbacks, and starts choking the shit out of you… come on.
Every action and emotion Gemma had, I just could not understand it. Instead of shoving the man off of a cliff and giving him a horrific concussion and possibly giving him brain damage for life, she should’ve left the first time she had the chance to seek help for herself and him if she truly cared. But of course we would not have this unnecessary dramatic story.
The whole series was just.. not it. And I hate saying this about author that I absolutely love.

Copy received from the author. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.
The ending of Kas and Gemma’s story, though surprising, was a very emotional ride and I’m pleased with how it rolled out. For a while, I had NO idea how they’d ever be leaving Fables and the forest behind, but once it happened, I’m quite pleased with how their lives continued on. Surprising though, because it sets up that Kas will be the one to hunt down his siblings, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
I think the author did a wonderful job, as always, addressing Kas’s trauma and his attempts to overcome it. I enjoy how Gemma was a large part of his healing, but much of it was done on his own, in his attempt to be “worthy” of her. I think this book gave a new side to Gemma, and one I quite enjoy. Rather than survival, we’re able to get the emotional side of her. They’re a great duo and deserve their happy ending.
I’m so excited for the other Fables stories and all the horrible darkness and trauma that’ll accompany it, but also the authors high fantasy novel coming next

Fable of Happiness
Fable, #3
by Pepper Winters
Narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel
There are books I listen to, then there are books that linger. This one is lingering, you know that book hangover that won't let you dive into the next one. I knew this series was going to be phenomenal. It's based on my favorite fairy tale. Then Pepper Winters blows me away with the first two in the series leaving me a need for answers and resolution. I wasn't prepared for the emotional wear and tear on my heart! We pick up where book 2 leaves off, and meet Kas's brother Jareth. Not sure about his motives in the beginning, he is rough, dangerous and a little crazy. But his heart is true and remains with his family. Kass is wary, but he knows his brother. And when Jareth does the unthinkable, Kas and Gemma's life will change forever. Taking in everything that has happened, I am in awe of the story. To know it's a fairy tale, but realize the horrors do exist is mind boggling. Then we have the characters. Gemma is fantastic. By his side from start to finish, her love is unconditional and it pours through Kas. She is the calm and she knows he is worth the fight. Now to Kas. What a superb character. His emotional journey still has me torn up. His darkness is a huge part of him, and to see the goodness shining through made my listening experience incredibly breathtaking. And on that, I will start the narration.
Tor Thom and Charley Ongel are the story tellers, and I can't say enough good things about this performance. I am not a person who cries when I listen, but this story, this team, this gut wrenching emotional journey had tears in my eyes, love in my heart and a need to hear more. Thom is exceptional as Kas. He pours himself into this tortured soul, and you can tell he is feeling every single thing Kas does. Ongel's portrayal of Gemma comes through with a feeling of comfort and love that is second to none. Winters knew what these two would bring to our ears, and it is nothing short of perfect.

This review is for the trilogy.
Pepper Winters consistently delivers unique and captivating storylines, and this trilogy is no different. Gemma's intriguing career captured my interest from the start. Initially, understanding Kassen and his mindset posed a challenge, but as his brutal and troubled past unfolded in book two, it added so much depth. The whole Beauty and the Beast vibes kept me completely engaged.
Book two was a turning point for me, driven by the gripping cliffhanger from the end of book one. Oh Gemma. She was too caring for her own good. Gemma's compassionate nature led her to become a caretaker, but it all backfired when Kas, revealing how truly unhinged and damaged he is, took extreme measures to ensure she couldn't leave him after spending almost a decade in solitude.
*Sidenote: Buddy reading this trilogy with my friend, Annica, was a joy. Even ahead in book two, I couldn't resist teasing her about reaching chapter 15. Kassen's absurd actions had me in stitches, making me exclaim, "Oh, no he didn't!"

Sensational ending to Kas and Gemma's story!
We finally find out who the man in the tunnel was from the end of book 2, and oh my goodness! You all are not ready for this!!
This couple's relationship has been tumultuous and gripped with sorrow and despair. They clash and fight, they come back together again, only to push themselves away once more. This to and fro, back and forth, is frustratingly them. I become so emotionally invested in what they are doing, saying, and feeling.
I love how Pepper Winters uses animals to show us how to trust, how to love, and how to feel. She brings us back to our primal instincts to show us the base of human kind, the natural link of faith to our baser needs, and that love will always prevail.
She reminds me to have faith in those around me, to live each day to the fullest, and to love with my whole heart.
6 genuine heartfelt stars!
