Oh my God! This book. The chemistry. The hurt. The forbidden! It's amazing.

Feral and unapologetic, the sexual chemistry is a chokehold you don't want to escape. This book throws you off a cliff with your heart kicking and your insides on FIRE! It's so wrong in all the right ways.

And it's FREE!

Sucked in from the start. We meet Gemma, a rock climber who made a life for herself doing what she loves. A spur of the moment decision after seeing a fellow climber find a hidden area compels Gem to find it for herself, only she gets lost along the way. That’s when we meet the mystery man of the hidden away mansion. Who is he? What’s this house? That literal cliffhanger has me chomping at the bit for the next one.

Whew! Do I have mixed feelings with this book! Which I have literally never have had with a Pepper Winters book. Ever.

So I’ll start off with what I absolutely loved about this book and that was the base plot. I absolutely loved the independent strong-willed adventurous woman getting lost and accidentally going on the long forgotten property of basically a caveman who hasn’t seen another human being in over 11 years. And he’s pissed.
He can’t figure out his lust over her. And he also wants to kill her.
He’s disgusted in himself and his natural body reactions to her. And he’s also curious about her.
His control breaks quick.

This is the story of Gemma and Kassen.
This is not a romance.
At least not yet.

Okay so-
I have never read a story where I just cannot stand any the characters. Every action they made was an action that I would’ve done the complete opposite of.
So I had a really hard time vibing with both of these characters. I’ve never met a story with characters that contradicted literally everything they did and said. It was so hard to love this book because of it.
Do they hate each other? Do they want more of each other? It was so back-and-forth that I was getting frustrated. About 80% of the book I decided to sort of speed read because I was getting bored.
And let me tell you something, that fucking ripped my soul to shreds because I am someone that usually says I am obsessed with Pepper Winters. And I completely acknowledge the fact that I may not love every single book that a author comes out with.
But I was hoping that I would love this and I didn’t.
And that’s OK.
I liked it. I just didn’t love it. I will continue the series. Because it leaves off on a cliffhanger, so of course I need to know what happens.
It’s written in duel POV.

This is absolutely not her darkest book. There are flashbacks of dark moments in Kassen’s life.. Which you understand why he is the way that he is. But in my opinion it’s not in graphic detail. However I would advise if you have a triggers, feel free to message me or proceed with caution.

“The Fable household would’ve benefited from her more than most. She would’ve been worth any price if she continued to protect her soul and trade her body for the things that benefited her survival.“ -
I’ll leave you with this quote to ponder about Fable of Happiness.

It's been more than a week since I've read this latest dark, twisted novel and to this day, I don't know what to say. I was left speechless, dumbfounded, and reduced to saying "WTF?" I have too many emotions and conflicting thoughts about this book.

Let's just say that, it left its mark on me that I would be thinking about it for months. Possibly, longer than that. With all of this, I highly recommend it to lovers of dark romance. Move it up to your reading list because this one is a must read! Can't wait for book 2!

So Pepper Winters picks me up right from the cliff she left me dangling over. Let me just say, this woman knows how to tease me. In book two, the mystery and intrigue continues at an all time high. I’m desperate to know more about Kassen’s history. There’s so much to unravel and with every page I learned a new thing while left questioning another. It did have its slower moments in this book but I feel that’s all a part of the plan. This is kind of story I just got absolutely consumed by and lost in but I didn’t want to be found. Like Gemma, I found myself entranced and unable to let go. Like with the last book, Pepper Winters decided to torture me once again with a chest clutching cliff that has me eagerly yearning for book three like last week!

Jesus christ wtf was that

An illusive search for the perfect climb leads to more heartache and despair than Gemma could have imagined, it changed her life forever. Now trapped and held against her will she struggles to remain strong and focused and above all else she is determined to not feel for her captor. But something terrible happened in this abundance of wealth hidden away in the woods and its hard to not want to discover all her captors secret pain. It's dark, emotional and manages to make you feel for the beast even when everything in you tells you it's wrong.

Pepper never fails to wow me with her deep, dark stories. This story has so many twists and turns. I cannot wait for book 2.
This is a dark romance. Reader beware.

TW: Sexual assault, captivity, violence, abuse

Fable of Happiness was a very dark romance even for Pepper Winters. And I loved every single bit of it. It's definitely not for the faint of heart and I've added some trigger warnings above so don't forget to give those a quick look.

The story follows Gemma who has everything going for her until she goes climbing in the middle of nowhere and stumbles upon a hidden house that she can't help but enter. The story also follows Kassen who has a really traumatic past who's been living in the hidden house all on his own for eleven years. And now Gemma is his.

So although this author is known for her dark romance books I feel this was very different from any of her other stories. Which is a good thing of course. It had a story and characters I hadn't come across before in any of her previous work so this felt like something fresh and new. And it was dark as fuck!

I'm not entire sure how many pages this book has but I finished it in only a day and that isn't something that happens a lot so that shows I really enjoyed it. My favorite things about it was the connection between Gemma and Kassen because it was just so profound and savage in its intensity. And this was only the beginning.

I've read a lot of books by Pepper Winters, almost all of her work actually but Fable of Happiness is something else entirely. It was an addictive and all consuming page-turner. I absolutely can't wait to read the next one!
