Oh my gosh Trapper and Brea ahhhh. Absolutely loved them. This story was so good. I cried. So many feels for Trapper. Seriously so good! The last sentence in this book was perfection I must say.
This is the story of Trapper Montgomery and Brea Bradley. You may remember Brea as Frankie's best friend in the "Unblocked" series. Marnie Mann continues her brilliant writing in this gripping story of a man that never thought he would be able to love a woman so deeply or at all. His past rooted in such tragedy, it's amazing he functions daily. He's a professional poker player by day and runs a place called "the compound" by night. Brea is finally ready to start living again after losing the man she loved two years ago. Everything changes for both of them after meeting at Frankie and Derek's masquerade party. With their masks on, passion runs deep in their first kiss but will his secrets tear them apart before she can truly understand the why of it all?
We also get a peek into Frankie and Derek's lives, which makes me long for more plaid shirts!!!
The story is extremely emotional. Just start reading and the prologue grabs you and makes you see how horrible Trapper's life started out. It's tragic and then rewarding, satisfying, sexy and BRILLIANT! I am a HUGE fan of this author and am convinced that whatever she writes will have me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. If I could have given this one more than 5 Stars, I would have.

Where to begin?
I was "all in" with this story as soon as it began. The prologue sucked me in, the story chewed me up and the epilogue spat me out. The entire book was perfectly executed; from the writing to the plot without forgetting the incredibly well-developed characters.
Trapper is dark, his past a painful reminder that not all children have safe and happy homes.
Brea is incredible, having grown into a stronger woman by surviving the pain of losing who she believed was the only love of her life.
Together, they overcome. They give hope in every one of their actions and feelings and it left this reader highly emotional throughout the entire story.
I could have bet my "bankroll" that I would love Wild Aces since Marni Mann's Unblocked series is one of my favorite reads of 2015.
The steam factor was "flush" worthy, the "King of Spades" made especially for the "Queen of Hearts". It was sensual, sometimes dirty and always beautiful.
So between the two main characters and the two secondary characters, this book was truly a perfect "Four of a Kind".
MUST READ times a hundred!

I have to admit that the premisse of the story was really good and it had a lot of potential. So what was it that didn't work for me? I read so many stellar reviews before going into this story that I thought I'd be in for a treat...
INSTA-LOVE
While I usually don't mind a faster developement Trapper and Brea went from 0-100 in 1 second and the next second they loved each other. From beginning to end it felt like 3 weeks had passed. There was nothing natural about these two. The sex? I give you that, it was hot. I started skimming the sex scenes the closer I got to the end. That was a new one for me.
Main Characters
I liked Trapper in the beginning. He was badass or so I thought. The further I got into the story he came across as pussy whipped, and not the good way, because - as mentioned - it felt like 3 weeks until he went from badass to soppy.
Brea...god I am so sorry but I disliked her big time. She jumped to conclusions and made assumptions without asking and questioning why things appeared the way they did. She was judgmental and didn't listen and thought the worst of the guy she banged. Asshole today, and sudden hero tomorrow. What now?
Dialogue
Cringe-worthy. Not going to say more...
The backstory was really good, just the execution failed to make this great. I have seen the reviews and I'm glad other people enjoyed it. I didn't much.

That blurb: I’ll admit, when the blurb’s mysterious, poetic and not exactly clear on what the book will be about, it can capture my interest. The lack of spoilers in the blurb is actually a good thing, and I’m glad I went into it blind. In the interest of maintaining that suspense, I’ll try to be as spoiler-free as possible.
Standalone: It’s a spinoff story of the Unblocked serial, and focuses on Brea, the BFF of the heroine Frankie in Unblocked. This story is standalone, so it’s unnecessary to read the first book, though it was fun in its own right.
It grabs your attention: The first half the story starts strong, and I was intrigued to find out what the mystery was, even if I had a pretty good idea, the tease of what it could be. The prologue in particular, captured my attention in a great way - it was heartbreaking and I was hooked. I needed to know more.
The firsts: Now, the firsts are so crucial in a romance to me. I can and will forgive the little things if you take care of the big beats. The setups for the firsts are good - for example, Brea and Trapper meet at a masquerade party (a key fact for later) - that it sets the tone for their romance. There’s so many secrets, some deliberate and others less so, that were certainly outrageous, and kinda soapy. I have a weakness for heightened drama, so this was right up my alley.
Insta-love: That initial meeting is certainly fraught with sexual tension, and Brea and Trapper say many times how there was “just something” about the other to explain that connection. Even their initial meet had more to do with sex than an emotional or intellectual compatibility. While I have no complaints about their sexual connection, I would have loved to seen more of their personalities shining through their dialogue.
Twisty in many ways: From here, the twists and turns kept me invested in the story, even when it became a bit disjointed in the telling. It was a bit repetitious at times, with key plot points hammered home more often than necessary. Towards the end, the revelations were good, although I would have loved to have felt some tension and that it had been more dynamic. I felt as if I were being told those secrets, instead of being shown the secrets and the emotional fallout from them was muted, because the romance, the core that holds it all together, wasn’t as strong as I would have loved.
The supporting players: I did enjoy the way the the people who love Trapper and Brea gave them sound advice and helped them get past some of the admittedly difficult revelations. There was perhaps a bit of dependency on those conversations, instead of seeing Brea and Trapper interacting, but I still enjoyed them.

This was a hard book for me to rate. I think the plot wins points for being different from anything I’d read before, and if Trapper and Brea’s love had developed beyond the insta-connection, I would have rated it higher. Still keeping my eye on this author, as I think there’s potential here.
