Did not finish.

Terrible writing. So many cliches and overwritten similes. Reads like it was written by a teenager. Too many books out there for me to waste my time on this.

When Annabel walks into Shane’s life, he realizes she is his fated mate. Shane is the (extremely sexy) local sheriff and a dominant werewolf, and the connection between them is undeniable. Annabel has secrets. She’s a hybrid and a Hunter, who is on a secret mission that has a life at stake. She’s new in town, letting others believe that she is human, because hybrids are scorned by other supernaturals. Will Annabel’s secrets destroy the growing bond between them?
I LOVED this book. It’s a fantasy romance, with a strong plot. The characters have depth and development. The world building is excellent- I got lost in Santos’ world. Hybrids supposedly don’t have mates, so Shane had to work to get Annabel to believe that they were meant for each other, which had their initial spark develop into a deep relationship. Super hot sex scenes, fast-paced and well-written battle scenes, and characters the reader can care about made this book and this author a new favorite. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series. Highly recommended.

Cheesy

Very cheesy, but with interesting story ideas and plot threads. I liked a lot of the world-building, and Anna's struggles, however, I thought Shane was too perfect, even in the context of Anna's thoughts. It almost made me glad when he "betrayed" her.

An enjoyable read, although a bit disjointed and rushed in parts.

I just. I expected a lot more from this

And got disappointed.

Seriously this is like 2014 wattpad werewolf story.
Its too cringy, that's a word I would use to describe this book.

I appreciate him not going off and saying "mine" as soon as he meets her but it's still just no.

There's like no build up romance, or world building, if there was it's just doesn't make sense.

Spoiler if you consider it one :

They have sex multiple times and say I love you in page 97?

If you liked this book no judgement but this is definitely not for me.

I didn't finish this book and I can tell you I can't just not finish books it stresses me out to have unfinished books but I just couldn't continue this one.

This story was different than other books that I have read, in a good way for the most part. I was really excited to read the book from the blurb. Annabel is a hunter and is undercover trying to find a pureblood vampire to save her brother. Shane is the sheriff in the town. Annabel and Shane meet her first night in town and once Shane gets a whiff of her, he knows that she is his mate. Shane believes that she is human so as he pursues her hard he doesn't tell her that she is his mate or that he is a werewolf. Annabel doesn't automatically know that he is her mate because she is a hybrid but she is drawn to him like no other. She doesn't want him to be sad or upset, especially with her and doesn't want to be away from him either. Since she doesn't have the automatic knowledge for the why of this, it is confusing for her. She decides to go ahead and continue seeing Shane because she can't seem to not and so changes her approach to her assignment.
This story has a bunch of twists and turns that are not expected that keeps you guessing what is going to happen next. The information is given in pieces which makes it harder to figure it out. The story line is very good and written very well. The story moves smoothly and doesn't ever feel slow. It moves very well and will definitely keep your attention through the entire story. I really enjoyed the characters. They were written really well and the secondary characters were as well. I loved how the next part of the story is being blended into this one. It is done very well and this story doesn't leave you in a cliffhanger but it definitely leaves you wanting more. I can't wait for the next story!! I am very excited to see whose story we get next and what is going to happen with this group of people.

This was an ok story. I didn’t like it as much as other books I’ve read by Anna Santos. It was too insta-love for me. I know it’s a soul mate story, but for some reason it just moved a bit too fast for my taste. There are definitely people who will like it, it just wasn’t quite my style.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was one of my very first paranormal/suspense erotic books and I'm craving for more!

This story goes deep, very deep. It has the perfect amount of plot twists in it and it leaves us with small cliff hanger, or maybe it's just to leave us expecting for the next book. Whatever it may be called, I loved it!

The characters are really good. Annabel is strong and it wouldn't be wrong to say powerful. I think Annabel is the mirror image of Ms Santos. I loved Shane, though protective, he knows that she's strong and respects her for that! We need more men like this in the society!

And, boy, do I love secrets! Each of these unravel slowly throughout the book, and they leave your mouths hanging. They're completely unexpected and brilliant!

Ms Santos is a very promising writer. I hope to read so much more of her works in the future!

For me this book was somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. I rounded up (damn you GR when will you give a half star option?) because it did manage to keep my interest and I know that it will appeal to many.

Now the first line of the blurb starts "Anna is a bad-ass hybrid hunter..."which raised my expectations. Unfortunately we don't really get to see Anna being a bad-ass anything aside from one brief scene near the end of the book. And in that scene she totally is but I would have liked a lot more of that Anna. Instead the Anna we get is a more confused, sappy, loved up version. Anna and Shane do have some good chemistry and there are plenty of hot scenes but I was expecting an awesome UF with a kick-ass heroine, what I got was a fairly syrupy romance with lots of insta-love and internal monologues about the relationship (from both H & h due to semi alternate POV). It wasn't necessarily bad - just not what I was hoping for.

Also there were a couple of really minor to the story things that bugged me. First there was the whole bit at the start where he takes her to his house after she passes out and undresses her completely so she will be 'comfortable'. Umm no that is not ok. Nor is it comfortable to wake up naked after an attack in a strange man's home. Secondly was the issue I have with Shane's ex just roaming around and being the object of Anna's cousin Jason's lust (and presumably the lead in an upcoming book?) give that she
Spoiler had a baby murdered so she wouldn't bond with it when he grew up. WTF? Isn't that the sort of bad guy that Jason & Anna have spend their life hunting?
