This book is nothing and something, I can understand possibly an older generation enjoying this book. I love learning about what life was like in the different eras I just don’t think this was a good one to read to inform yourself.
I think I just prefer books where something happens and nothing happens in this
Always a similar theme with books like this, is that there is a character with mental health issues that were obviously undiagnosed at the time

Cider with Rosie is a wonderfully vivid memoir of childhood in a remote Cotswold village..... is the description of the edition which I read. And yes, its exactly that, from the first line to the last.
I enjoyed it immensely. The description of the authors childhood made me remember some of my experiences, though very small and unimportant, they are dear.
So many things that we tried like fiddling with fire, dipping our head in water to see if we can open our eyes, etc etc. Narration was a dreamy poetic journey, where I dreamily sailed. This book makes you dream, not alert. And I was happy to dream in a dreamy way.

A quick light read, transporting you to the early 20th century, just after the first world war. A simpler time, in the year and through the eyes of a young boy, where your biggest problems were algebra and navigating sibling rivalry and friendships. Short and sweet was invented for books like this one.

So beautiful, nostalgic and poetically descriptive I was planning to give this four stars. But then I got to the second to last chapter, from which the book's title is suggested. This chapter is so unpleasant and disturbing that I could almost say I didn't like the book. After reading this, my entire impression of the author changed from awkward sickly child to kind-of-a-creep.

For posterity's sake, I have to admit that this is an important novel, and for literature's sake, I do not doubt that this is an exquisitely written novel, but for some reason all the dots were there, but they just didn't connect for me. I didn't hate this book, but I far from enjoyed it. The experience of reading it seemed more like something that had to be done than something I had elected to do for pleasure.

Beautifully written tale of village life, told as only Laurie Lee can. Full of poetic beauty, quirky characters, and a passion for the written word unlike any other.
