This was epic.

The writing, the story, the humour, the adventures, the battles, the heartbreak. All amazing

Loved this book even more than the first!

This series frustrates me to no end.
To be fair, I liked this one better than the first one and I have to commend Kristoff for his very creative approach to cursing, twatgoblin might be my new favourite word.
But the length, oh the length of this book...it could be at least 20% shorter and would be all the better for it.
My German teacher used to say "Mut zur Lücke" which loosely translates to "Please! For the love of all that is good and holy, don't bore the reader and edit your writing!".
Mr. K obviously doesn't adhere to similar rules and that's a shame because some parts of the book are really good and kept me reading way beyond the time that is necessary for me to function the next day.
But alas, again there would come a part that's completely unnecessary, stopping the flow.
We all know by now Jay Kristoff is a very edgy edgelord being all...edgesom (not a word, I know), so if you're not one for cursing and gore, don't bother with his books. I don't mind it that much and in EotD it's done better than in EotV.
The women still are written in a way that makes me think the author should just give up writing from a woman's perspective but that's just my opinion. The smut just makes me cringe so hard and his female characters are all either
a) evil
b) a "one of the boys" type of woman or
c) frightened little girls.
Also, why is Dior into every other female with a pulse? I'm hetero but as far as I'm aware, queer women also have more requirements in a potential romantic/sexual partner than 'alive and breathing'.
Now for something good again: Jean-François is perfection! I just love him.
The sarcasm, the vanity, the whole 'if you kids can't behave, you'll both go to your rooms without dessert' mood.
I could go on and on about the good and the bad and like I said, it frustrates me, but all in all it's a solid 'meh, could be worse' from me.

Edit: Nikita is a twatgoblin from the deepest pits of hell, Baptiste is too good for this world, if little Mila isn't kept out of this bs from now on and gets to live a happy life I will riot and the ending is 100% chaotic evil.

Fuck. My. Face
That's all that can be said about this book. It's bleak, it's despair, it's horrible. It is so well written, the twists at the end, the way it played out you just can't hate it.

Another book most definitely is needed with that ending good god! Loved getting Celenes POV as her and Gabes bickering was actually quite hilarious! Action packed the entire way thru, interesting to see if Kristoff will wrap this up in a trilogy!

I NEED the next one NOW. A pure masterpiece. It's one of the best written vampire books I've ever read. It is just as spectacular, if not BETTER, than the first. It's in my top 5 favourite ever series.

The twists and turns. The ENDING! Very interesting use of unique names for characters and places. The relationship between Gabriel and Dior is similar to that of Geralt and Ciri from the Witcher. In fact, the whole series from the beginning has given me Witcher vibes, which I love.
