I expected this book to be a direct sequel to [b:The Shadow of the Wind|1232|The Shadow of the Wind (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, #1)|Carlos Ruiz Zafón|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1157865731l/1232._SY75_.jpg|3209783], though I wasn't quite sure how Zafón would achieve that. Turns out it wasn't a sequel at all. Instead, it was a completely separate story set in the same location (Barcelona). The primary thread that ties the two together is the Cemetery of Forgotten Books.
The tone and story shared many elements with its predecessor, but I found David Martin's character and plight much less relatable than Daniel's. It's masterful storytelling, full of twists and turns and rewarding details, but it often felt long and dreary.
I have the next book ready to read, but I'm going to wait a bit before I start.

It's very well written. However the love interest was bland and I hated the epilogue. I also felt that the ending could've wrapped things up a bit better

Ça fait longtemps que je n'ai pas lu un livre aussi transcendant et qui m'a fait voyager. Quand je dis que j'aime lire, c'est pour lire ce genre de roman.

This can only be described as a damn good read with great plot and characters. It’s a true story, one you won’t want to put down.
La verdad es que tenía grandes expectativas (ehem) y me pareció muy lento. Lo salva el epílogo, que lo ata a otros libros y hace que todas las vueltas innecesarias de las 600 páginas anteriores al menos tengan un poco de sentido.
عندما تقرر القراءة لزافون، يجب عليك تهيئة نفسك جيدا
1) احرص على الا تكون مشغولا، لأن كتابات زافون كشباك العنكبوت تأسرك بداخلها، المناص منها ابدا ليس بالسهل، و ان انشغلت ستتوه و تفقد اثار خطاك
2) يجب ان تهيئ لزافون طقسا خاصا بكتبه لا ينبغى لغيره، طقسا هادئا، مظلما نوعا ما و بعيدا عن تفاهات البشر
بعد ذلك فلتستمتع بقلم من افضل الاقلام التى ستقابلها فى حياتك ، و لتتوه و تفقد الاحساس بالزمن فى روعة السرد و بلاغة الكلمات

عاد لنا زافون مرة اخرى فى الجزء التانى من الملحمة الرباعية، و غزل لنا العديد من قصص الحب و خيبات الامل و الألام و الحسرات مع جولة فى شوارع برشلونة و أزقتها و آثارها و تاريخها مع الحرب و السلم فى جو غامض سوداوى ساحر، لينسج لنا عدة روايات فى رواية واحدة و يربطهن جميعا برباط شديد الوثاق بحنكة و حرفية منقطعتا النظير
الى اللقاء فى القريب العاجل مع دانييل و بياتريز و ابنهما و فيرمين مجتمعين مع دافيد مارتين ليمتعوا حواسنا و يغمرونا بالنشوة ، و لكن تلك المرة بالانجليزية ان شاء الله لأنى لن استطيع الصمود.
