I was sad this book didn’t come close to the wonderful We were liars, which is still one of my all time favorite books. Unfortunately this one starts out great but drags on.

I absolutely loved E. Lockhart as a teen, and although I was disappointed with [b:We Were Liars|16143347|We Were Liars|E. Lockhart|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1402749479s/16143347.jpg|21975829], I think she redeemed herself with the 2017 release of Genuine Fraud — an incredibly interesting look at possible implications of fraud and identity theft.

The story's most notable aspect is that it's written with a reverse timeline, but it makes the main character, Jule, much more interesting. At the outset of the novel, Jule is a vibrant, impressive, physically strong character — who kicks ass — and only as the novel progresses do we learn how she came to be the person we met at the beginning.

Imogen (the novel's other primary character) and Jule have an interesting relationship that Lockhart had me questioning continuously. Does she exist? Is Jule really Immie? Have they been the same person this whole time? Are they really sisters? How do they look so alike? Immie is everything Jule wants to be, and Lockhart expertly backs up and strengthens that idea as the timeline moves back.

A fun, unique, quick read.

Odd read. I devoured it pretty quickly, about 3 days which is super face for me. I enjoyed the twists and turns and oddities of the characters. Kept me guessing.

I can’t help but say it - I couldn’t put this down! Jule is a liar and violent but she’s intriguing and you kinda root for her. Super fun and fast read!

I was really excited for this one given how much I enjoyed We Were Liars, but this just wasn’t as good. I didn’t like the characters near as much, the writing felt way too different from We Were Liars, and it just didn’t really do it for me. All around just an eh book....

Love this book! Genuine Fraud rivals E. Lockhart’s other thriller, We Were Liars, with its twisting suspense and shocks that just kept coming. i really enjoyed it and started it around 5 pm and finished about 1, so it was a super fast read and totally enjoyable. My one and only problem would have to be how hard it is to understand where you are in time, especially if you take breaks while reading it. There are a lot of time jumps so it can become quite cloudy after a while. Overall an amazing thriller that i highly suggest if you enjoyed We Were Liars.
