A riff on "The Talented Mr Ripley" for the teen girl crowd. Really enjoyed this thriller about two friends, one super-rich and popular, the other a wanna be and stone cold killer.

I don't quite know what I'm thinking right now. But a rating somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars, maybe?...

3.5. Stars

I’m just confused and feel this was lacking something??

I read and LOVED "We Were Liars' by E. Lockhart and had high hopes for this book but overall it just really let me down and disappointed me. I'm not sure what it was.

Also, please bear with me as it's been a few years since I read this and my goodreads review simply states "I’m just confused and feel this was lacking something??" which isn't really helpful.

In "Genuine Fraud" we follow Imogen in what feels like a backwards timeline. It's like we start at the end and go backwards... or maybe there was flashbacks like a dual timeline... but either way, it felt.. so obvious what was going on to me? Unlike "We Were Liars" where I got to practically the last page and was shocked, I was waiting this whole time for the book to catch up with me.

It seemed really smug, like "aha got you" when in reality I was sitting there thinking... I worked this out 200 pages ago? and it just left me wanting more, but not in that good way

I was really disappointed in this book because I was a big fan of We Were Liars. To be fair there is no way the author could have replicated that book. Unfortunately this book just never came together.

The real genuine fraud is this book. Such a blatant rip-off of The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith. The author then has the audacity to merely mention Highsmith's novel as one of many that "inspired" hers. There are several entire scenes that are almost identical to those in Mr. Ripley!

It was good! Quick read! Interesting how it is written backwards- i have never read a story written that way before. Had to go back and just check dates and things, but no biggie, i do that in a lot of books.
