Alexis Hall has such a knack for writing utterly ridiculous but deeply relatable characters. And he really knocked it out of the park with a very lively supporting cast. This story was so funny and so charming.
Lucien is about to lose his job if he doesn’t get his act together. He’s been traumatized by living in the shadow of his deadbeat rockstar father and his eccentric retired rockstar mother. He’s skeptical of relationships due to being used in the past and he’s distrusting and hostile of most people trying to be his friend because of it. He’s been acting out and now that’s catching up to him as the rich people who support the charity he works for don’t want to be associated with his wild streak.
One of his coworkers suggests he fake date a respectable guy to redeem his image but when no one wants him, his friend Bridget pushes her lawyer friend and the only other gay person she knows at him convinced they were meant to be a couple anyway. Oliver is in need of a fake date for an event as well so they figure it’ll be mutually beneficial and no one will get hurt.
I wanted to like this book so bad. I thought the narrator did an outstanding job and the only reason I kept listening honestly was his delightful accent. Otherwise I think I would have DNF this one and I never do that. So my biggest issue is the yes while Lucien is mostly a thoughtless selfish dude who never got past his trust issues, his friends and even Oliver are literally so bad for him. His friends are cruel and callous and honestly I’m surprised he doesn’t have more of a complex after spending time with them. Oliver as well was very judgmental and harsh and definitely thought he was better than everyone else.
Pretty much this entire book everyone kept letting Lucien down and hurting him over and over again and at the end after hurting him multiple times Oliver decided he couldn’t do any better might as well settle. Honestly would not recommend this one. This couple had less than no chemistry and Lucien would do better without all these wankers in his life.

💙 Fake Dating
🤍 Slow Burn
❤️ Opposites Attract
5/5 🌟
2/5 🌶
This is what love looks like. It's messy and you get things wrong but you still want the other in your life regardless. I loved the whole cast of characters and the hilarious situations they get up to.
Fading to black does not mean it was lacking in heat. The growls and possessiveness had the steam rising pretty high.

If I evaluate this book objectively, should I give it 3 stars? Probably. But I can't. It was too good a time.
