3.5! absolutely adored Ursa, only kind of liked Jo and Gabe. parts of the story were questionable in terms of whether the events would truly play out the way they did, but that’s why it’s fiction

One of those books where I just had to sneak time to read to find out what happened to the characters.

The ending was a letdown.

I loved this! And I love how, right up until the end, you’re not sure if this is science fiction or fiction.
Masterful storytelling.

I was hesitant to read this when my book club chose it because cancer stories can be really anxiety inducing for me. But I found the cancer was really a side-story - not the main deal. I loved the characters- their growth and depth - and Ursa was the sweetest. It almost reminded me a bit of the Little Prince (my favorite book). This wise being falling from the stars and teaching the people so much…

The premise of the book is very alluring, my craving for magical realism (lest I assumed too hastily) got a hold of the book immediately and finished it in 2 days.

"She gave in to Ursa's vortex, the timeless whirl of stars Gabe had named the Infinite Nest. Nothing could touch the three of them in that boundless spin of love." Beyond the first half of the book, I was immersed in Ursa's narrative about Hetrayeh & quarks, falling for the tale that's being put in place.

Unfortunately, entering the last 30% of the book, a lot of the scenes started becoming far too simplified and rushed. To express it in simple terms, it felt like going on a road trip with a bunch of snacks and music prepared to purposely enjoy the long drive, but arriving too soon at the destination.

What remained fascinating about this book was surely the little changeling kid, Ursa, who brought good things her way with her mysterious past and a future I kept trying to guess. The ways Jo and Gabe connect with Ursa were adorable to read, showing two people who just genuinely care. All in all, it's observable that the book meant to uncover a lot of family issues, love, parenting, and mental problems, though I regretfully see that it is a long road away from my expectations.
